SLER pilot study - text transcripts to voice

Hi everyone,

At the suggestion of one of our core coordinating members, we are running a pilot test of converting our weekly text transcripts from the SLER meetings to voice chat, using a text-to-voice (t2v) conversion application.

You can find the first of our pilot test voice transcripts here:
http://sorryafk.wordpress.com/2009/10/26/experiment-text-to-voice-for-transcripts/

We are asking that everyone who checks this out please leave feedback in the comments section of that blog.  Whether it is something simple ("hey, this is great" or "would never use it", etc...) or whether you want to write more, or even provide suggestions on how this service could be made better, we'd really appreciate it.

best,
aj

p.s. A HUGE thanks to Margaret Czart (SL: Margaret Michalski) for suggesting this project and taking it from its very beginning to where it is now.

PBS Frontline documentary "Digital Nation" filming in NYC

This message comes from Andy Fundinger, the new lead organizer for the New Jersey and New York Metaverse Meetups...

This is something I'm organizing through the New York Metaverse Meetup and will probably take place in Brooklyn, but if you want to participate, please let me know.

A producer from the PBS Frontline documentary "Digital Nation" has been in touch with me this week and would like to setup a meetup just as soon as possible. What they would like is some of our stories from living in the metaverse. They're especially looking for short clips with us saying how we're involved with the metaverse, but also longer stories.

They'll help us setup a place so they can film, probably somewhere in Brooklyn and we'll decamp for a bar afterwards. What I need is to hear from y'all is who's ready to tell stories and what you want to talk about. For the documentary they definitely need some short clips, but we're going to go ahead and gather stories of all sorts.

So, again, please e-mail me at
Andy@... with what sort of story you'd like to tell (business, social, technology, relationship, or whatever) and anything you want to say about the story. Also if you could possibly make some time next week they'd like to record some clips for a rough cut of the segment.
