| Subject: [Audacity-help] Rv: AUDACITY 1.2.6 - TOSHIBA LAPTOP
| I have problems with Audacity 1.2.6 with my laptop Toshiba Satellite
| A100-SP2022, I cannot record nothing, in the record menu (near
| the level bar with microphone) I only have CD and Microphone but
| I cannot record nothing. In the options menu I changed from Microsoft
| Assigner and Realtek Audio Card but that does not change anything,
| I cannot record nothing.
| I my destop (an assembly without brand) Audacity works fine, I can
| select among phisical inputs (I passed mi Vinil Long Play to mp3) and
| I can select also the inputs of the Widows volume controls as inputs,
| thus I can have an mp3 version of all my CDs, song of my movies
| (originals, pirate hears too bad)
Choose Realtek as your "recording device" in the Audio I/O tab of Audacity
Preferences. If the microphone input won't record even if the input volume
slider in the Mixer Toolbar is turned up, or if you want other inputs such as
line-in, you will need to go to the Windows Control Panel and try and make
the other inputs you want (e.g. line-in, stereo mix) visible, and then select
the one you want to use and turn its volume up there. There is help on
doing this here:
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel(scroll down to the section for Windows XP or earlier).
If you still have problems or can't get the input source you want, try updating
the sound device drivers to the latest ones for your computer model made by
Realtek, using Device Manager. There is help on doing this here:
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Updating_Sound_Device_Drivers
Note that if you are looking for a line-in input, many laptops do not have them.
In that case check if your microphone port can be toggled to line-in with a
switch, or by changing the recording source in the software. On some laptops
this line-level source is called "mix" or "stereo mix". If you see a line-in option
available in the Windows Control Panel, then choose that. If you have neither
a line-in port nor any way to switch the microphone port to line-in, you need to
add a line-in by adding a USB soundcard, or other suitable audio input/output
device that connects to the computer via USB. Examples of recommendable
input/output devices are the Griffin iMic:
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/which has a standard 1/8 inch input, and the Behringer UCA202:
http://www.behringer.com/UCA202/index.cfm?lang=ENGwhich has left and right RCA inputs.
