Rural Carrier transporting dispatch mail

My acting Postmaster has informed me that if a Rural Carrier misses the dispatch, he or she must transport the mail collected on the route that day to a nearby facility. If it's too late for even that, then the carrier must drive it to the airport mail terminal.

I'm certain that this is incorrect and that it is the responsibility of the manager to do that.

I swerved across this info somewhere on the internet, but I'll be darned if I can find it now.

It stated that not only is a Rural Carrier not required to do so, they are NOT to do so (paraphrase).

If someone could tell me where I can find this, it would be so much appreciated.

She tends to make up her own rules and will back off only (and grudgingly) when irrefutable evidence to the contrary is presented to her.

Regards... Mikey

We post a sign on our back door for the truck that we still have a carrier out. I'm in a tiny office with only 2 routes.

Its managements responsibily not a rural carriers, they can make an rca go but not a regular carrier, first time ordered to do so you have to go, but file a grievence and you wont go again!

Thanks for the replies.

Is this anywhere in the contract? I'm certain that if I can show her official proof, whether it be hard copy print or online, she will retreat from her stance.

My PM says if I miss dispatch, I must ride with him down to the main PO.  Another processing plant is about half as far away, but he says we MUST go to the big city!  The union said that if the PM insists that I ride with, they must pay me for my time  (at my full wages)!!!

Go to the Steward Refernece Guide on the nrlca websitou will find the, go to Dispatch Missed, and you will find the step 4 settlement saying that rcas may be required, but regulars are not to do so unless it is under Art. 3.f. Also, the rules regarding 12 hours max. work hours for the day still apply, so if you start at 7, and won't get back from the plant until 7:30, they need to send someone else. (or go themselves)

I think you will find it in postal regulations book...it is illegal for anyone not in management to do that. Our PM used to use city carriers to do this and it got shot down.

IF IT IS ALREADY IN THE REGULATIONS WHY DO WE HAVE TO DO IT ONCE AND THEN FILE A GREVIANCE ? WHY DO THEY NOT HAVE TO ABIDE WITH PROCEDURES ALREADY SET IN PLACE.

I had a look at that: Basically Art. 3.f says that all bets are off during an emergency. Now, I wonder what qualifies as an "emergency"?
