[Sorry about the cross-post but wanted to get this to the attention of
as many NZ-based python users as possible]
Hi,
Inspired by Danny Adair's work with the NZPUG[1], I've begun looking
into organising a regular 2-monthly (at least) Python developers (&
friends) meetup in Christchurch. Christchurch because I'm down here and
therefore can coordinate things. I just wanted to send a message to the
list(s) to elicit some feedback re. potential presentation topics,
suggestions re. meeting logistics/etc.
So far I've got this far:
* I've contacted CII[2] and they seem positive to us having a
regular meetup there.
* I thought the format could be similar to Danny Adair's NZPUG
meetups, i.e. 2-or-more presentations (say 30mins per preso)
along the lines of some python-related topic, followed by some
nibbles (gold coin donation gratefully accepted) and a bit of
networking. I've got some giveaway books from our generous
publishing sponsors[3] too!
* I was hoping to start in April as I won't have any spare time
prior to that. If someone was willing to pick up the ball on
this, we could definitely have one sooner but I wouldn't be able
to help too much with the organising of it.
I think this would be great for knowledge share and really is a
fundamental part of most user groups worldwide. What do those on the
list think (if possible could you reply to the NZZUG list[4] to save on
cross-pollination)? Also, if you think you may be able to help out with
giving presentations, providing nibbles, promotion, ideas on getting
speakers from other regions, etc - please let me know!
Thanks,
Tim
