Hi

After I've recorded and I play back, the recording seems to start out fine , but this lasts for about 5 sec.
Then the volume and quality of the rest of the recording deteriates to a low muffle.

Please ask on the Forum giving them sufficient information that they may be able to help you:
http://audacityteam.org/forum/

* version of Audacity (click Help > About Audacity, or Audacity > About Audacity on Mac)
* operating system (e.g. Windows Vista, MAC OS X Leopard)
* the sound device being used for the recording (e.g. USB turntable, or dynamic microphone plugged into mic port of inbuilt sound device, plus the information at Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O tab > Recording Device). Note Preferences are under "Audacity" on Mac.

Make sure the recording device has the latest drivers from the manufacturer of the device or motherboard. See Updating Sound Device Drivers and Recording Tips on our Wiki.

Hi

I've tried this on both versions of software : Audacity-Win-1.2.6 as well as Unicode , and got the same result. Furthermore I've got Windows Vista Home and I'm recording from a Dynamic Microphone plugged into a onboard soundcard. The driver for wich has been upgraded to the latest version a couple of days ago
( SoundMAX ).

Thanks for the information. Something like this is unlikely to be an Audacity problem, as Audacity simply records the signal it's given. To prove this (or otherwise) turn on software playthrough in the Audio I/O tab of preferences which lets you hear what is being recorded. You could try our Beta program 1.3.5 (which uses a different version of our PortAudio I/O library), but I doubt it will help.

Are you sure the microphone is compatible with Vista? Are you connecting to the correct input the manufacturers instruct? Even some dynamic mics are sufficiently sensitive that they require pre-amplification (feeding into a standalone pre-amp or mixer, then the pre-amp or mixer connects to line-in).

If this is not the problem, then see if the mic has a volume boost or "AGC" you can switch on at "Sound" in the Windows Control Panel. And check the sound card is not adding "effects" or any kind of "noise reduction" that is interfering with the recording.

Hi Gale

There is some enhancements wich you can turn on or off in the sound.I turned off all of the enhancements and that seems to have solved the problem.

Thanks
