Recording audiobooks

Does anyone here know what people recording someone reading for an audiobook usually use to record it?

Also, if the reader makes a mistake, do they go back to a certain spot and start over, or do they somehow edit over that spot, or . . . ?

Do they have special recording software for this, or special equipment?  I'm referring to professionally-done audiobooks.
