Reading bufr files with GRASS

Hello everybody!

Does GRASS read bufr files? I had a look at gdal but this format is not
included...

Any Idea?

This is the format:

I see that there is a library for that:
http://www.ecmwf.int/products/data/software/bufr.html

Is this gridded or point data? Say, rendering in a map is possible?
Perhaps it would be a better to ask the GDAL folks for addition
since GRASS uses mostly GDAL/OGR for interoperability.
