Thomas,
Some of this work is sequentially. For example, if we want to create a new logo and brand identity then it seems like it would be more beneficial to have this settled first before going on to new splash screens, promotional banners, CD/handbook covers, etc. Many areas of design allow for a great amount of artistic freedom (such as promotional materials). Others areas such as buttons have many restraints and would ideally undergo a few rounds of user testing before a finale release. One last consideration on my mind is future maintainability. For most of the design work it will be necessary to make changes ranging from new version numbers on the splash screen, to incorporating new features and text into brochures, to creating derivative works. For this we would need the source files (ideally in an accessible format). Lacking an accessible source file we would need the pieces to put it together in future. For example when I created the new splash screen I relied heavily on the original GIMP image available in the mscore source files. I thing this could be a beneficial relationship for both MuseScore and the students. One thing you could add to the list is the MuseScore About screen. This afternoon, the MuseScore rebranding project has been kicked off. 22 graphic design students from Hogeschool Gent have been introduced to MuseScore for the first time. The goal: create a corporate identity for MuseScore.
In a first phase, each one of them will be creating a house style, logo and word mark. Eventually the best proposal will be selected and further elaborated to become the corporate identity for MuseScore. The term of the project ends at the end of June but the logo proposals will be presented earlier, somewhere around the beginning of April. Questions, ideas and remarks are very welcome! Hi guys,
Just cross posting that the logo proposals can be viewed at http://www.musescore.org/en/node/1301 Bear in mind that this is just the first design iteration. Comments are welcome. Have a good weekend, Thomas

The design that strikes me as being the most clean, contemporary and pertinent is Helien Demey's (slides 31 through 35). Of the others, some seem obscure or unrelated, or the designs (palettes, iconographies etc) a little busy. That is not to say, of course, that the designs are all not of excellent standard, though it is to say that Demey's is to me the most suitable; combining the symbol of the treble clef and of the fountain pen with the simplicity of the circle, whilst keeping the number of elements low and the palette concise (see slide 34). -- Toby Smithe :: http://fulltinreality.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Apps built with the Adobe(R) Flex(R) framework and Flex Builder(TM) are powering Web 2.0 with engaging, cross-platform capabilities. I looked at the proposals, and some were really good, though none were
quite "it" to me yet. I would definitely go for the slogan "Free your music", its the only one that actually gets the point without sounding cheap. I think for the design it would be good to go for a clean and simple look with the logo/website etc., to make it look trustworthy and reliable (as that is of #1 importance for most users). A "Web2.0-look" implies simplicity, which wouldn't be too bad either.
