There are reasons not to switch the icon. If the new icon is bad
enough that we want to switch it again, it means that people who are
currently using the system will have to relearn the icon twice. And
also, when you're looking for the icon, there is another variation
that you may fail to recognize.
A simple improvement could be to have two glyphs on the icon from
obviously different languages. In that case, one should probably be
english (as pretty much everyone recognizes the english alphabet).
Personally, I feel none of these icons do a very good job of
representing what an input method does. While the "scim" icon is bad,
it is at least accurate :)
I'm also wondering a bit whether it makes sense to change the icon
from representing "scim" to represent "an arbitrary input method
backend". If you have two input method systems in your menu, should
they really be using the same icon?
