Hmm, mine now has a one-option list box, with the option "Capture:0" in
it, which is rather hard to test, given you can't actually change it.

What should it have do ya think? I don't actually know what it's called off hand, but can you check in the mixer that you get when right clicking the speaker icon in the top right corner? (You're using Gnome right?) You may have to enable the different capture devices by clicking preferences in the mixer dialog.

Even with the one Capture:0, you should be able to change the capture volume in Audacity and see that reflected in the system mixer.

If you can't get the controls that way, then hit the shell and issue the amixer command, then send the output to me.

When I went "all Mac" hardware, I really sort of screwed myself since I no longer have a machine that I can pop in 3 or 4 sound cards. (My last PC have 5.) So, I don't get to test this like it really needs to be.

As it is now, I can only test with 2 different audio devices, an Intel HDA and a Creative ES1371 (or some such) (VMware emulated).

I allso got the same "Capture:0" and could not apparently change sources
via the Mixer Toolbar (which is half the purpose of it).

On the assumption selecting sources worked reasonably well in previous
Betas, shouldn't this be release noted, at least in terms of informing users,
even if there is nothing we can currently do about it? Some text for
that?

So you have more than one? Remember that for ALSA, Capture:0 and things like Mic are two different things. Can you post the output of "amixer"? That would be a big help.

Wait...I think I see what needs to happen. Using the "simple" mixer interface isn't going to be good enough for our needs. Let me see if I can figure it out tonight.

No, I had just one Capture:0. I can't help I'm afraid because I haven't
solved the compile problem on Linux despite a fresh checkout. There
are several odd things going on like the 1.3.7 repository version of
Audacity now refusing to appear when double-clicked...

I'm committing the README for 1.3.8 now, minus the Linux Mixer
Toolbar issue. We can always add it.

I'm away now for eight hours or so.
