Folks,
PostGIS has been approved by the board for Incubation at the last meeting.
As we did not have quorum at the meeting the votes were done via mailing
list: http://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/board/2009-August/002987.html

This makes PostGIS an official OSGeo Project in Incubation.

WebCom,
can you please add the link http://www.postgis.org/ to the front page. I
am unsure whether PostGIS fits into any existing category - maybe
"Geospatial Libraries". If you think we need another category, go ahead. I
have filed at ticket, funny that it is 404:

on page http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Introduction_to_FOSS_GIS I find these categories:

• Categories of FOSS GIS: libraries, tools, web/desktop/scientific apps

IMHO this is tool/app centric view. It might be useful to add a category "services" or "databases". The latter is more focused of course, excluding all services not using a DBMS, hence "services" maybe more appropriate.

I have added PostGIS to the main page in the Geospatial Libraries category.
I will try and prepare an announcement for the website and announce list today.
