This vehicle is a Japanese import and it is the original engine.
It has a 5 speed manuel transmission and 2.4lt diesel Toyota Hilux engine with a turbo charger and low ~ 91,000 miles. The vehicle is very clean. The interior is immaculant. The body is quite clean with just two small spots of rust (base of passenger door and rear tailgate). Power everything and all functional. No sun damage to interior or exterior.
The vehicle is registered in the USA and that was an expensive process for me. It has passed DOT inspection and passed strict AZ emissions testing for the past two years and is licensed and registered in the USA. It has been equipped with some after-market features such as a cooler running head (this series was notorious for overheating and cracking the head). It happen to mine in 2007 so during the replacement we used the cooler running head to avoid a repeat.
I am a file biologist and got the vehicle to satisfy my need for 4 wheel drive and put a Veggie Oil fuel system on it to satisfy my desire to drive a bit greener. A lot of what I do for work involves making sure that developers and miners follow the environmental, and Endangered Species Act rules and regulations. No one is currently developing anything so I am working a fraction of what I was 9 months ago. In light of that we need to cut some corners, tighten our belts, which is my reason for selling, (We have three vehicles and I hope to go old school and become a one car family)!I really need to sell because my work situation has changed dramatically with the economic slowdown however I can not justify selling if I can't get at least $9,000 or close to it.
It gets about 28-32 mpg depending on how I drive. It has a nice 5 speed transmission with a "granny" low end for crawling out of any sand trap/rock pile/snow drift that you get into. It goes interstate speeds no problem but don't expect to race any sports cars. It has push button electronic adjustable shocks that allow you to go from a "hard" mode to "soft" mode when needed.
I am enclosing some images to give you and idea of how absolutely clean this vehicle is.
As far as immediate problems or concerns I would say that it does spot oil on the driveway. It looks bad but not enough to warrant addition of oil between oil changes. Also, I notice that the A/C does not blow as cold as it did last year. I am at that place where if I keep it I will have the system looked at and charged if needed but I really do not want to spend money fixing that if I am going to sell. With that said, it did blow super cold last year so I do not think it is a major job. Also as I mentioned on the phone, you will need to buy some new tires if you get this vehicle. the ones on it are snow and mud tires but a bit older.
Power windows/doors all work fine.
The interior, exterior, and motor are really clean. As noted it is licensed and registered in the USA and passes emissions no problem. I just replaced the timing belt so it won't need that again for another 90,000.
You asked about the front hubs. This one is push button from inside and you DO NOT have to crawl out in the mud and ice to lock the hubs! ( I had an old 4x4 nissan that had manual hubs, what a pain in the butt).
Based on how clean it is I believe that it was probably a single owner vehicle in Japan that was imported to Canada prior to me getting it.
Thanks again, JG
