R-sig-Geo nabble forum request

It would be nice if a nabble forum would be created for the R-sig-Geo mailing list
which provides many useful information closely related to this forum and in addition
gives a nicer interface for the communication.

Are there any plans to do this.

With kind regards

You can access R lists through gmane and nabble. There are no plans to do
any more, since none of the people who might answer questions have time to
handle anything other than email. There are wiki entries on the R and the
GRASS side, but nobody checks them for accuracy or freshness. They might
have been OK when posted, but since the software evolves, and there are no
automatic mechanisms to run code snippets on current releases outside of
the tests and help-page examples in R packages, all bets are off.

Naturally, no-one can stop forum creation, but it does constitute a
forking of discussion, where the presumptively useful discussion takes
place where developer(s) can see it.

A fork is definitely bad. But AFAIK Nabble is bidirectional. Let's see if
this comes through... (send through nabble).

A nabble forum is able to send messages to the mailing list directly
if you are registered in the list.
It would be only another interface to it and no extra forum.
The messages from nabble will be accepted only if
you are a registered member of the mailing list.
An example is the r-sig-ecology list.
http://n2.nabble.com/r-sig-ecology-f471788.html
I use several mailing lists that way and
it gives me a nice interface for posting messages to the list and an easy
access to the history.

The creation can be done here:

And this is the nabble interface to it:

OK, the R-sig-geo list is now being archived on Nabble2. We'll see how it works ...

Great!
The URL is
http://n2.nabble.com/R-sig-geo-f2731867.html

but it's readonly (I think), we cannot post from there, Posting would be
the real advantage
of using Nabble. Note that anything posted from Nabble goes through the
list, Nabble
is just a front end, users have to be subscribed to the list to post.

Also, I think there might be a way to upload the archive (or part of
it). It's easier to search
the archive through Nabble, and searching the archive is most useful.

A close example would be the Nabble interface for r-sig-ecology:
