Hi all,

Hope everything is fine over there. I have this question. I would like to add LinguaPlone documentation to the manual. So far, LinguaPlone is (IMHO) the de-facto standard for managing multilingual content in Plone. Should we add LinguaPlone documentation to the manual? Or should we create a document stating that there are multiple products that help administrators manage multilingual content, for instance LinguaPlone?

Any thoughts on this will be more than welcome,

As far as I know, our current policy is not including 3rd-party products docs into the main plone.org documentation area, since these docs should be part of each 3rd-party product own documentation.

Should we break this policy here?

In my opinion, LinguaPlone is a special case. It's as close to core as
any product will ever be, and is community developed. Also, after
several generations of work, there's still no specific documentation
area for the product, so it's probably not going to develop.

So, I'm +1 for integration into existing documentation!

Actually, there are already other docs with information about 3rd-party
products. Examples are docs on LDAP, PAS plugins, salesforce
integration, theming with DIYPloneStyle, etc. So I guess LinguaPlone
docs would fit very well on the documentation area. But I'm not sure
about adding it to the manual. I think the manual should include only
features provided out-of-the-box.

LinguaPlone is also special as it doesn't have any clear competitors.

Personally I'd love to see more endorsing of quality 3rd party addons
by their selective inclusion in "official" documentation. I realize
many might think "its not our place" but really, those new to plone
need guidance and those deep in plone already know what's good and
bad. We're here to help right, not just document?

No need, LinguaPlone is actually owned by the Foundation:

In my experience, I only had to read LinguaPlone's README.TXT file in order to set up a multilingual site. I don't think writing an article on how to use LinguaPlone is necessary. That being said, it would be nice to have a short paragraph in the manual stating that LinguaPlone is the de-facto standard for managing multilingual sites and encouraging readers to read the README.TXT file.

Any thoughts on this?

Gustavo
