Thank you for all the replies. We do have a big megaprim bubble around
our build.

We are less concerned with griefing than we are with "breaking the
metaphor." We want visitors to the site to HAVE to walk.

A security orb is a good thing for other reasons, however. I'll see
what the commercial products do.

And you can't simply set the parcel to "no fly" because?

Some javascript/style in this post has been disabled (why?)

Because anyone who knows how to use the Advanced menu can circumnavigate that by allowing admin options…

Emerald makes it even easier too.  Besides, they don't want to
restrict flying in the parcel.... just in the skybox.

Isn't there a distinction between 'communicating that this is a best enjoyed via walking zone' and forcing walking?
IOW, if you want folks to walk, and you set it to no fly, then sensible people will likely just walk. People who for whatever reason feel they must circumvent the 'rule' are only diminishing their own experience are they not?

Estate manager of our Island says "no." We have other projects on our
island that demand flying.

That's why. We'll figure something out.

Skybox??  that should be easy... if the skybox is VERY high, the ordinary avatar can't fly on it without a flight feather ( by default ).   Try raising the skybox!

As of September 2008, The maximum flight height without a flight
assist device was 165meters.
Any skybox above that height would make an avatar without a flight
assist device walk.

This script will notify an avatar that they are not permitted to fly,
and give them a few pushes back to the ground. Its range is set to the
max of 96m, and the sensor fires every 5 seconds. You'll want to place a
few of these to cover more range, and make sure you don't overlap into
parcels that permit flying!

default
{
     state_entry()
     {
         llSensorRepeat("", "", AGENT, 96.0, TWO_PI, 5.0);
     }

     sensor(integer num_detected)
     {
         integer agentNum;
         for (agentNum=0; agentNum<num_detected; agentNum++)
         {
             if(llGetAgentInfo(llDetectedKey(agentNum)) & AGENT_FLYING) {
                 llInstantMessage(llDetectedKey(agentNum),"Flying is not
permitted here.");
                 llPushObject(llDetectedKey(agentNum),<0,0,-999999999>,
ZERO_VECTOR, TRUE);
                 llPushObject(llDetectedKey(agentNum),<0,0,-999999999>,
ZERO_VECTOR, TRUE);
                 llPushObject(llDetectedKey(agentNum),<0,0,-999999999>,

             }
         }
     }

}

I don't.  And one of my avatars has wings.  ;o)  Seriously, never heard of it (still not sure if you're joking) until now.

Oh, you can get flight feathers in a lot of places -- check the freebies boards at any NCI campus, for instance. You wear them (on your HUD) and they allow flight above the normal limit.

We give flight feathers to newbies all the time.  I got my first one
(of dozens) when I was a newbie, three years ago. It's a universal
freebie.

I have several -- gave one to a newbie the other day who was
struggling to get above 170m or whatever
the limit is.  I don't use them any more because the MystiTool I wear
provides this and many other
services although it wasn't free.

It sounds like setting the parcel to be "no fly" is the best option
here, but be aware, if someone flies in from another parcel, they are
not forced to the ground (unless the behavior has changed since I last
tested it). They will only be prevented from flying again after
landing on the ground.

Just to clarify (and do correct me if I'm wrong) but I'm pretty sure that the Mystitool free version is still available from the usual store and includes a flight assist device though it lacks, of course, many other features.

Best wishes

Peter

Tim, the homestead island I call "home", El Elovar,  is set to "no fly" and people crash into the ocean at the sim line all the time.

Anyone with knowledge on how to use the advanced menu can enable fly even if
the land is set to no fly. I've done it many times most often when
teleporting onto someone's head and getting stuck.
