QGIS not connecting to Internet

Some javascript/style in this post has been disabled (why?)

I know this problem has been noted before but it’s still not fixed:

 

1.3 binary on XP and 1.0.2 binary in OSGeo4W on XP will not access the Net for any service, be it WMS or plugin manager. It makes no difference whether I set a proxy or not in Options. Local services work fine.

 

1.0.1          on Ubuntu 8.04 server on the same network, connects just fine to external services.

 

What’s the current fix for this problem on windows?

Not reproducable here.

Version 1.3 Mimas on WinXP from OSgeo and on OpenSuse from Repo

I'm guessing your windows box has an anti-virus or firewall app blocking
it, and that it may not be QGIS. Please double check that you've allowed
QGIS in the Windows firewall or temporarily disable and test.
