For Sale - 1984 AM General FJ8C  – 258 CID Six-cylinder Engine $4,500.00 - Shreveport, Louisiana

        Odometer has 84,750 miles and I have no reason to doubt this mileage.

This is the perfect vehicle for either mail delivery as a Rural Carrier and/or an Ice Cream Truck business.  It is right hand drive, which is perfect for mail delivery and curb side for an Ice Cream business.  It has a service window on the right side of the vehicle which can serve as the service window for an ice cream business.

        For those looking for a mail delivery vehicle, I have used this on a 48K Rural Route for the past two years driving a 50 mile a day.   I have always been able to carry everything in one trip even with a heavy “L” route.

It comes with the following additions:

        *   Cash Drawer w/ key
        *   1200 Watt Inverter
  * Top loading freezer (works)
        * Locking Storage compartment
        * AM / FM Stereo w/ external speaker on front of vehicle.
        * Strobe light on top of vehicle
        * Large “Caution” sign on rear of vehicle
        * Large “Caution Children” signs on either side of vehicle
        * Spare tire with jack
        * Delivery mail tray which slides from left to right up to dashboard

Vehicle was slightly wrecked on front fender prior to my purchase.  The front fender and grill  was bent approximately two to three inches across the entire front. The hood release cable isn’t connected.  This wreck doesn’t effect any mechanical aspects or drive-ability.  Front fender has had bondo applied to right side.

The following improvements have been updated / replaced within the past two years:

        * New Transmission (less than 12,000 miles)
        * Radiator
        * Water pump with thermostat
        * Battery
        * Tires (Goodyear Wrangler)
        * Steering gear box
        * Brakes
        * Radiator Fan
        * Transmission Cooler
        * Ignition switch
        * Alternator
        * Radiator hoses
        * Heater hoses
        * Tune-up (plugs, plug wires, etc)
        * Starter
        * Universal-Joints
        * Exhaust Pipe
        * Motor mount
        * Fan Belt

Works: * All gauges work (Speedometer, fuel, etc.)
                * Great heater and vent system
                * Rear cargo lights
                * Both door and windows work and lock
                * Rear roll up door works and locks w/key
                * Runs well and starts everyday

Problems: * Oil leak - have been told that it is probably around the rear main seal
                * Gear Shift cable - needs to be cleaned properly or eventually
                                       replaced.  It
                        sometimes sticks and I simply spray with cleaner and it works fine.
                * Both studs mounted in the exhaust manifold need to be replaced in
                                      order to correctly connect to exhaust pipe. (Currently not totally
                                      seated together)
                * Hood release cable not connected. (Hood tie downs on outside)

        I’ve tried to list everything that I can remember about this vehicle.  I tried to caulk around the windows for extra protection, not realizing that the clear caulk would attract any and all dirt making the caulk job look brown. (I should have used white caulk) [Lesson learned]..  The vehicle is easy to work for any mechanic or for you to do-it-yourself.
