What about expanding Plone4Universities to Plone4Edu? I am willing to donate the domain name for the web site. I purchased it for another purpose but would rather use it to promote the Plone in Education effort.

This was discussed at last week's Plone in Education Organizing meeting which followed the successful Ploneability Higher Ed conference. I agreed to make a proposal to the list.

There are some obvious benefits to using Plone4Edu. Those mentioned in our discussion were that it was short and simple to remember; that it would be easy to market and promote with the existing use of 'Plone in Education'; but most importantly, that it widened the perceived scope of the group to all levels of educational institutions.

Thoughts and opinions?

Hi Jordan

Plone4Edu seems a better name than plone4universities, this will avoid the creation of many groups that have much in common, avoiding a big divergence in Plone and making it easier to find things (people don't have to hop through dozens of sites).

Best regards,
Rui

Hi everyone,

I agree with Rui. Plone4edu suggests a more inclusive scope of
interest for developing applications for educational institutions.

Plone4edu +1

It's warm and fuzzy, and lends itself to code sharing and the ability
to split into the specific educational sub-groupings when appropriate.

Since Andreas has been so kinds as to get the plone4universities site
up and running, would it be possible / reasonable to ask if he wants
the plone4edu.org domain passed into his control?

If I have a vote, I also support the warm, fuzzy, and inclusive plone4edu.

Sure. That can easily be worked out if there is consensus to use "Plone4Edu."

Once Andreas has a chance to weigh in and the rest of you guys are agreed, I can point the domain wherever it's decided.

I agree that plone4edu sounds better than plone4universities, and is more
inclusive.

The only thing that's a little strange is that edu is also a domain (and
currently only for accredited postsecondary US institutions).  I'm
assuming you have plone4edu.org.

But it's probably only a little strange.  I suppose plone4ed could work,
but it has less of a ring to it.

Hi Melody,

Yes the address would be "plone4edu.org" ;-)
