#1020: A more inviting way to 'contact us' (contact Plone) to be offered on press
releases and the like

 = Suggestion =

 Plone should gain a point/method of contact that involves no more than one
 registration.

 = Motivation =

 The current ~ten-steps approach to ''contact Plone…'' is unappealing.

 From the perspective of a newcomer: the protracted routine may be un-
 welcoming, possibly detrimental to Plone.

 = Background =

 Less than a week after editing http://plone.org/support/posting-to-plone-
 forums I found myself [http://n2.nabble.com/World-Plone-
 Day-2008-tp1487270p1507566.html considering] a
 [http://plonemetrics.blogspot.com/2008/11/world-plone-day-after-action-
 report.html draft press release] and realised that a ten-step approach to
 contacting Plone is not the sort of thing that I'd wish to inflict upon a
 newcomer ;)

 = Implementation =

 A Nabble forum/sub-forum

  * not associated with a list
  * requiring nothing more than Nabble registration to post.

 As a thread within this forum matures, it can me moved to some other, more
 established Plone support forum

  * most likely, one that's associated with a list.

 == A name for the forum ==

 Maybe ''Welcome''. Maybe not. (Discuss.)

 == Forum attendance/maintenance ==

 In a Plone evangelist role I, for one, would be happy to:

  a. watch the forum

  b. move threads

 and I assume that others (ideally, evangelists) may share the task. It
 need not be difficult.

 (Most posts will be directed at the more established forums. Only
 newcomers may find themselves at the ''Welcome'' forum.)

 == Forum visibility ==

 We might (in Plone terms) exclude from navigation, so that

 * posts to the forum are visible

 * without the forum's name appearing in the sidebar (as the forums are
 currently presented).

 == Moving a thread ==

 Any move of a thread to a forum that's associated with a list should be
 accompanied by:

  * a reference to http://plone.org/support/posting-to-plone-forums or
 something similar.

 = Future simplification =

 In the Nabble support forum I have asked whether they will
 [http://n2.nabble.com/Nabble-as-an-OpenID-consumer-td1492000.html accept
 (become a consumer of) OpenID].

 The Plone Foundation can be contacted by email at [hidden email].
 Other than that, the only way to "contact Plone" is to join our email
 lists or hop on IRC.  That is not likely to change in the near future.
