Now that the list of PLIPs to be merged is final (see
http://lists.plone.org/pipermail/framework-team/2009-February/002730.html
) it is time to start the next phase: merging the code and updating
the documentation.

Can someone give me a realistic timeline when the required documentation
updates will be ready? I would like to do a first alpha in two weeks,
and it would be incredibly nice if it had some nice updated
documentation to go with it!

Wichert.

I will work on this during Plone Tune Up day this Friday and see what
kind of timeline I can come up with.

According to http://is.gd/k4Ng , 5 of the 9 filed tickets have already been addressed and only need review.

Regarding the rest of them, I know Gustavo Orrillo (morrillo) is already working on the ones assigned to him, and Sam Knox's told me he's likely to get some free time in a near future.

I know that's not a realistic timeline, but I hope JoAnna will be able to figure it out. :-)

Btw, Wichert (or Raphael), could we have somebody from the framework team, or ideally the plip implementers, review (read) the documentation changes so we make sure everything's ok?

I'd be happy to look over any documentation changes connected to my PLIPs (#126 and #240) if you can point me to them.

I'll see whether I can free up some time for this during the
weekend.

I am making sure all the tickets are assigned to at least someone. I
think they can be documented with in the next two weeks but the
assignees need to make sure they get done.

Donna- I've reassigned a couple to you. Please work with the PLIP
owners to find out the details you need to document the PLIPS. Of
course, we are all here to help.

I have one PLIP that needs someone to work on it- ticket 7664, it's to
document PLIP 149.  If someone could grab this, that would be great.

For those that just need to be reviewed, please find a SME (the plip
owner or person who made the most commits?) and have that person read
your doc and verify technical details. If you need help tracking
someone down, let me know and I will work with Wichert to find that
person.

Doc team- this is a  *critical* deadline for us to meet. We will be
letting the framework team down if we do not reach our goal of
documenting these plips. If everyone could chip in, that will help us
complete this task. If you would like to help, please email the list,
catch me online or email me off the list. I will find something for
you to do!

Thanks for all your help!

J.

I would say that documenting the 3.3 plips has higher priority now
than documenting older ones.

Although this looks rather counter-intuitive, I feel 3.3 ones are more
feasible now. Moreover, I think they will constitute a good test of
whether or not we are in good shape to bind the documentation to the
development process, i.e. if we can document changes before (or very
shortly after) the new Plone version that includes these changes is
released.

IMHO, if we can't do that, Plone documentation is condemned to stay
out-of-date forever and ever.

Potential contributors: please keep in mind you don't have to be a
Plone master to do your bit. If you don't feel confident about writing
documentation, you can always review others' work, look for poorly
documented tasks, etc.

Wichert,

Where could we look up what PILPs have been finally merged and will be included with Plone 3.3? What's the estimated release timeline?

All PLIPs mentioned in that email have been merged now. I can not give you an estimated release time, but I expect it to be 1-2 months from now.

Wichert.

An update on the state of the 3.3 PLIPs documentation. From http://is.gd/o6cT :

Already published:
  1. PLIP #238: Disable inline editing by default.
  2. PLIP #240: Improve locking configurability.
Ready to be published (already reviewed):
Need review:
Need more work:

I think we shouldn't publish the updated documentation before the new version is released. But since the already published docs state that the new features are available from 3.3 on, I guess they won't hurt. Anyway, we have to be more careful about that in the future.

If any of you (that means the whole list) want to help reviewing #232 or #246 or writing documentation for the last two PLIPs listed, please reply to this thread, comment the associated bugs or contact me directly.

Thanks!
