Password input fields in Java Swing not working when SCIM is enabled by default

Hi,
I have been having this problem since a long time already. Im using SCIM for Japanese input and it starts by default on startup in my Linux system.
Problem is when I'm using Java-based programs. Java's password input field (i.e. JPasswordField) does not work for me when SCIM is enabled. I am able to type in the user name and any other information, but I can never type passwords. I have to turn off SCIM and first then the password input works. It applies for almost every Java application having password input fields on my system.

My setup is Ubuntu 8.10, SCIM 1.4.6, Java 1.6

Thanks

That may be an anti-key logger tactic.  As SCIM runs in user space, and
intercepts keyboard input, it will look like a key logger to other software.

If that is the case, if you can get round it without patching the JRE,
you have probably found a Java security flaw.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.
