Hi all.

is there any place where "content types" can be downloaded as products on plone.org?
i wanted to create a product but i need more examples.

I wanted to create a content type for "research groups" pages (inside department folders) so that the research group coordinators could add a page with predifined fields in order to all research group main pages look all the same.

This product/content type could also be applied to universities departments + classes pages.

Regards,
Rui

Hi Rui,

if you look at any Archetypes tutorial you might find what
 you are looking for.

Some places where you can start digging:

 http://plone.org/events/conferences/new-orleans-2003/archive/archetypes_plone_tutorial.pdf
 http://www.fabiorizzo.com/cursos-online/criando_um_produto_para_plone_usando_archetypes/
 http://plone.org/documentation/books/the-definitive-guide-to-plone

best regards,
Rodrigo Senra

Thanks Rodrigo.

Are these tutorials compatible with Plone 3.0.x?

Is anyone insterested in help building a product for Universities and Institutes where Professors (or Laboratories coordinators) could have a content type to create their Class pages (or laboratory pages) with predefined fields to have some consistency between each class/laboratory pages.
That way the university could have one folder for each course were the professors/teachers edited the their class pages.

I'm thinking in the following structure:

Research Division (Folder) -> Laboratory (Folder) -> Laboratory pages (Pages)
or
Department (Folder) -> Course/Class (Folder) ->  Course/Class pages (Pages)

For the Department folder there would be 2 main fields: name, description
For the Course there would be the following fields: name, description, coordinator, contact/webpage
For each course folder, the course coordinator could add pages like: teachers, exams grades, support books (pdf's), etc.

The product should be in a way that could be used both by universities and institutes with easy customization.

Regards,
Rui

I forgot to add an example:

I don't know if this pages mentioned above use any product.

This sounds a lot like Houston Community College's Learning Web.

Jordan Carswell will be presenting at Ploneability tomorrow and joining the developers' meeting Friday. Don't know how much he has that's reusable by others, but I suppose we'll find out.

You might be interested in looking at eduCommons, our OpenCourseWare solution.  It is specifically focused on hosting Departments, Courses, and Course Content for universities, and has a healthy international adoption.  While it may not meet your needs out-of-the-box, it would provide you a good example of the content types you are wanting to generate.

If you'd like to talk more about eduCommons, feel free to ask questions here, or contact me offlist, if desired.

Maurizio has already answered. Those links were just a place to start.

For Plone 2.x this is a matter of creating appropriate Archetypes
products IMVHO. I have not tried Plone 3 yet.

I believe each institution will have a (sligthly) different structure.
You may get away with using default Folders and Pages and enforcing
a policy, instead of customizing products. The latter is not rocket
science, but it takes time to get it right.
