I am looking for ideas/examples/advice from those who have developed learning tools or processes for orienting students and faculty new to SL. We want our Newbies to actively participate in distance learning, educational and social events, and access asynchronous learning tools. My university will have a virtual campus opening soon and want to be sure we have processes in place.

Please send LM or info to me on this list, in world, or email.

Thanks!

Hi Rachell,

You may find some useful tid-bits in the transcript from the April 14th SL Education Roundtable meeting.

http://virtualworldsedu.info/slroundtable/090414.html

The theme of the meeting was Bringing Faculty and Students into Second Life and our special guests were NMC's Alan Levine (SL: CDB Barkley), Virtual Ability's Alice Krueger (SL: Gentle Heron), ISTE's Jennifer Ragan-Fore (SL: Kittygloom Cassady), (all of whom have orientation areas in SL) and Suzanne Medders (SL: Mirt Tenk) who developed a support model for the faculty and students at Clemson.

best,
aj

You are welcome to look and use anything from the orientation resources that we have assembled for the SLENZ project..
They are all on wikieducator and any original content is covered by a creative commons license.  I would be very interested in feedback by the way.

Thanks

Thanks AJ....I remembered that was a great session at the RTable--it had a large turnout and lots of discussion!  I was there, but thanks for the reminder--I just reviewed the transcript and got some ideas I didn't catch the first time around.

Also, thanks to others who commented on this thread, I'll be looking into those ideas as well.
