We need to get organized against the 5 day delivery push.  Our subs will suffer the most.  This will also affect all of us..  Think working Mon-Friday will be the best thing???  How about when you need off and you dont have a sub to work for you..  We need to write the Committee and our Congressmen NOW!!  I have made it easy for you to contact them on my Action alert page..

im sorry but i dont understand why everyone is so against 5 day delivery , the number one day to be turned down for being off is saturday , more rca s will recieve full time jobs by 5 day delivery ,and in turn be getting benefits. they are also looking into 5 day delivery , but longer days, so it is possible that if it goes to 5 day the reg will work 4 and rcas will work one, as it is right now , subs are quitting all over the place , because of the last count , reg are now working 6 days a week , or went to j routes, so you will have to sign up for you vacation every year, just like many other people at other jobs have to do , but you will now get sat off , there are carriers in some area s who havent seen a sat off in forever, cant get their vacations when they want them now, if this doesnt change for the po soon, the government will step in and then its all up in the air what will happen, sometimes in order to help save a company you have to make concessions , and im afraid this is one of those times, our unions will still have bargaining right s, and can ask for different way s of getting vacation time s fullfilled , i even seen a paper where they are suggesting , training all employees to deliver mail, just to fill in for vacations and other time s when needed, the bottom line here is things have to change for the postal service to survive , if they dont you wont have to worry about how many days anyone is working , but rather where your next pay check is coming from , take a lessons from the car companies, the wanted more the company said we cant , they still wanted more , went on strike , the company then needed them to get back to work and settled, now almost one year later they are closing plants , and these same people that didnt want to make concessions are now filing for unemployment, and wondering if they will ever be able to retire. yes i do feel for the rcas , and their loss of hours , and for anyone else in these times that has lost money  but this problem with the po is very serious and real , and if something drastic isnt done the post office is not going to survive

Yikes, I put the (RCA pee on ) one time and now its stuck with me. But truley if you want any subs than write. I can not imagine any RCA's sticking around for a few vacations a year, or when you get sick...or out of the whim you want a day off. We get no benifts. And when we go the Union will miss our dues I am sure. The regs will have to pay more is my guess.

Its time to face facts, mail is a dying business Each new generation is going more and more digital My 11 year old nephew knows how to use a computer better than most adults I know Do you think his generation is going to pay bills by mail? Make purchases through catalogs? Use the mail to send love letters to his future girlfriend? No of course not The internet and computers are getting better faster and easier to use Think of how far technology has come in the last 10 years and where it will be in ten years. How many people have dumped their home phone for their cell phone? I have. I got rid of my home phone 4 years ago and love it. Why? My cell phone is easier, cheaper, more convenient and I dont get unwanted sales calls. You can pretty much say the same about the internet compared to snail mail We need to realize this and figure ways to change and grow with the times or we are going to have alot more to worry about than whose gonna cover our route while on vacation

How would more RCA's be hired if the PO wnt to 5 days?
It is my understanding no RCA's are being hired on full time
because of excessing of regulars because of FSS.
We have one in our office retiring and the route will be offered
to the regulars and the residual will be held for excessing.
That is what we w were told.
Just curious how and RCA is ever going to get hired at all anywhere.

If we look at Potter's testimony, he wants the OPTION of going to five days when condtions warrant.  Such as during the summer months, and during cyclical economic downturns.  The country will be up and running soon.  By the time they get around to giving him the authority to go to 5 days, the economy will be booming anyway.  So we probably AREN'T going to see it this summer.  But next summer, RCA's will collect unemployment, and probably get MORE work because people tend to use vacation during the summer.  I'm leaning toward supporting this.

How exactly do you expect rcas to get full time jobs faster with 5 day delivery? that doesnt make sense!
unless you are expecting a mass exodus by regulars and RCAS if that was enacted..which i guess does make sense ...in a warped kind of way...

the bottom line in all this is .....DONT GIVE AWAY ANYTHING....we all better fighting to keep everything we can...or its gonna bite us all in the ass!!!(this includes UNION hotshots too! better think about it guys!!!)

They sure as shit better keep the american public as happy as they can...or else!!! Customer serive and 6 day delivery is about all the PO has going for them anymore...Somebody needs to smack the shit out the PTB's the next time they even suggest 5 day delivery..they need to be GUARDING their customer base..and not cutting any services at all...if not..its just gonna get worse!

Five day delivery is the way to go.  There is no logical reason for the postal service to continue with six day delivery right now.  Most people I have talked to about this subject couldn't care less about not getting mail on Saturdays.  Most businesses in the United States are closed on Saturdays and it makes sense for the USPS to be closed on Saturdays as well.   Anybody who says that this move wouldn't save billions of dollars are either naive of just full of crap.  The USPS can't keep six day delivery just to try and keep subs happy.  I was a sub not too long ago, but this is just a very, very serious matter and something that needs to happen.

Hey Supersub,  do you always blast everybody who doesn't agree with your opinion?  You must be a really intelligent guy yourself.   Before you call people a moron you should probably learn that it is "you're a moron" and not "your a moron."  Learn how to spell before you start talking trash d-bag.

We have a business that went to their congressional rep about not having Saturday caller service mail.  They are now receiving it on Saturday too since they pay for it.  It may just seem that no one cares but there are alot of businesses and customers who really depend on our services and wish we delivered on Sunday too.

If everyone would take a little time and actually count up the value of the mail delivered to your route you would find more than enough revenue to cover the costs of your salary/wage and several other employees and it has gotten even better over the years, (not worse.)  Since the PO is automated they can now deliver more in one day than they used to deliver in an entire week.  Remember city routes once left the office with a satchel full of mail and got to their delivery points in a small jeep.  Now we leave the PO in large LLV/CRV's and load those vehicles to the hilt with parcels and volume mail, (DPSed mail and ads.)  We go through high tide and low tide and since the DMA figured out how to sequence flats and label their catalogs we can get more up in the case per hour now than ever before.  The model the PO wants to adopt for both crafts now is the Rural model of evaluated routes since it is the easiest to manipulate for the sake of volume through convincing communities to cut back on mailing through us for the period of the count and using an alternative company just during that time to keep our costs down.  Some of you remember "Carvin" Marvin Runyon the terror of the Tennessee Valley Authority as the PMG but I go back even further and remember Anthony Frank who said quote "I hate to see the congress use the PO as a cache-cow" and that is exactly what they have done through the use of automation and confusing accounting models that keep the public in the dark and the carriers as well.  Congress loves to fund their pork-barrel projects with general fund monies and much of that comes from the Postal Service.  If you settle for 5 day delivery then you will have no subs to cover your vacation days and if you let the language into HR 22 that allows arbitrators to consider the health of the U.S.P.S. when deciding contracts you will have gone down a slippery slope of no return.  I will be retiring soon, and when I do I will need another job, but I will be pressured to move on so that others can have a job.  When I went regular I had no idea what my retirement options were but now that I know I am very disappointed with the FERS system for us and the military.   Consider your options well my friends when you acquiesce to the power brokers wishes, because they are devious and manipulative and do not have your best interest at heart when forging the future of the U.S.P.S. . We have served the public well in spite of what people say for a long time and are used as the bad boys when congress want's something for nothing.  The rest of the time we are the greatest employees in the world and can't be beat.  Our beloved leader pulls down over $800,000.00 a year and tells congress we cannot go on like this.  He's right but who is paying for his illustrious salary?  If they can afford to pay him over $800,000.00 then there must be money some where for the rest of us.
