Hi, I have some phonecall recordings which are playable by mplayer. File identifies them as "RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, GSM 6.10, mono 8000 Hz" and audacity cannot open them. Well, it can, but the result is only garbage.

What version of Audacity are you using and what operating system are you on? Is the content of the attached file just a click noise (which appears to be the case in all players)? Audacity 1.2.6 and 1.3.5 import that test file for me fine. Audacity can sometimes have trouble with compressed WAV files. You can either use mencoder to convert them to 44100 Hz PCM WAV, or in Audacity, try Project > Import RAW data (under File > Import if you are using 1.3.5).
