Dear Plone(Gov) addicts,
The Appy framework 0.3.0 has been released on PloneGov.org:
http://plonegov.org/software/products/pod-python-open-documentIt includes a new version of appy.pod, the document production library
that is used by several PloneGov applications (PloneMeeting,
PloneTask, Urban...). appy.gen is now compatible with OpenOffice 3; a
new function allows to import external documents and images.
It also includes the first version of appy.gen, a new code generator
that goes beyond ArchGenXML for generating complex web applications.
appy.gen generates a whole web app (as a standard Plone product) that
includes dashboards, configuration panels, search facilities, a
specific portlet and much more. gen includes mechanisms for building
highly configurable applications, that, like PloneMeeting, can be used
by several administrations or companies sharing some common needs but
having their specificities. This work results from an ongoing
collaboration with the PRECISE research center
(
http://www.fundp.ac.be/en/precise/, University of Namur, Belgium).
The new Appy framework site (
http://appyframework.org) contains the
equivalent of 75 pages of documentation. Every single functionality of
pod and gen is fully documented (including Zope and Plone aspects).
The Appy framework is a proposition for dealing with the increased and
(in my point of view) *very* problematic complexity of Plone and Zope.
The idea is simple: Plone(Gov) humans concentrate on creative work
while appy.gen produces the dark and intricate code needed to make
things run with Plone.
appy.gen generates Plone 2.5 products and will soon generate Plone 3 products.
Feedback is welcome !
