New Sherlock Holmes Movie Trailer

A new Sherlock Holmes film is due to be released for Christmas 2009. The film based on Arthur Conan Doyle's detective Sherlock Holmes will start Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Dr Watson.

The official movie plot from Warner Bros is:
In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous characters, Sherlock Holmes sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.



What do you think of the trailer? Is this right or wrong to make it so action orientated, compared to the older drama play based movies of the past.

I don't think there's a right or wrong to it, but Sherlock Holmes stories are so good as they are, I do think it cheapens the characters and plots to add all the extra action, violence and fighting.  I find it more interesting to just have the mystery and a really good plot driving the movie, instead of always slapping us in the face with fancy action sequences.  Then again, I really like Robert Downey, Jr., so I suppose I'll go see it and judge it then.
