Hello mates,

Plone 4 is approaching with important changes and new shiny features. I'd like to start working on the Plone 4 documentation as soon as possible to avoid resting on our laurels.

According to the P4 release calendar, the PLIPs 1st implementation review is due on Sunday 30th Aug. Matthew Wilkes is in the FWT so I'm sure he will ensure the implementers provide enough documentation guidelines. We can start right on Monday 31 with implementations already approved or with minor problems.

By Mon 14th Sept the implementers will be able to help us with the review of any documentation written so far. My goal is to have the documentation already reviewed by the time the first beta comes out, on 26th Oct.

I'd like to know the availability of every member of the documentation team (specially editors) to work on this during the following months.

If you're reading this but have never contributed, it's the perfect time to chime in! :)  Please contact me directly or post to the plone-docs list to know how to get started.

We need more testing on the PHC test instance if we want to split the documentation before start working on the P4 PLIPs' documentation. I've tried to check the Editors Team and Documentation Team permissions policies and stumbled upon some errors that hopefully Steve will be able to fix.

Thank you for your attention,
-- israel

Oops sorry, I forgot to provide a link to the PLIPs... Since Plone 4 all PLIPs have been moved to Trac.

See https://dev.plone.org/plone/wiki/Plone4 for complete info about this relase (there's a link to the PLIPs list at the top of this page).

Some javascript/style in this post has been disabled (why?)
Re: [Plone-docs] New PHC, Plone 4 and next steps Hello,

I can see that the bit about the global_variables might impact theming a bit (barely), as well as the doctype stuff: http://dev.plone.org/plone/browser/Plone/branches/4.0/docs/BACKWARDS_COMPATIBILITY.txt (again, just barely). The only real hit Anne and I take here, though, is on the new theme, as Anne stated.

I think we can probably make this happen in this time frame. I’m going to be out for a few days starting at the end of this week, then again for another week in the middle of September, and of course there’s conference at the end of October. That said, I still think Anne and I will have plenty of time to do our part by Oct. 26.

If there are other places where we can help (e.g. on the reimplemented search form), I’d be happy to help there as well.

Can you give some more explicit guidance on what you need tested on the PHC test instance? Also, the last email I received with a login to the PHC instance did not allow me to log in. Maybe I’m looking at the wrong thing? Sorry, I’ve been drowning in email...

Hello plonistas,

I'm here again to provide more info about the PHC and documentation
migration.

We've published current test cases at
http://www.coactivate.org/projects/plone-documentation/phc-test-cases

If you want to contribute some testing, we can grant you the neccessary
privileges in the test instance. Just ask me! :D

We're working on new designs for the documentation pages to show both
the Knowledgebase and the core documentation area in the navigation and
try to avoid any possible confusion between both.

We'll move most how-tos and tutorials to the knowledgebase using a
script kindly developed by Steve McMahon. Manuals will stay in the core
area.

The knowledgebase will be open for editing to anybody belonging to the
"Documentation Team" group. Membership for this group will work in a
similar fashion to the current collective: you ask for membership and we
grant it to you without restrictions, but if a member commits abuse, his
membership can be revoked. This way we prevent spam and abuse. We will
publish extensive information about the policies after the split.

It's worth noting that commenting will dissapear nearly everywhere in
the documentation. From my own experience (and others can confirm this)
the comments in documentation items usually hang forever. For the core
area we will use trac, and since the Knowledgebase will be open for the
Documentation Team to edit it, there will be no need of commenting (just
add the comment at the end of the howto or tutorial if needed :).

If you have any doubts, please contact me or post to the documentation
mailing list. Tack så mycket!

Hey all!

The deadline for PLIP reviews has been extended to this Wednesda, 9th September.

Thanks Anne, Veda and Tom for your replies... What's the availability of the rest of the editors to work on PLIPs documentation?

I am available, and should have more time for this in the next weeks/months.
