Folks,

The PostGIS project has just applied for incubation.

   http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/PostGIS_Incubation_Application_Questionnaire

The set of all projects who have requested incubation is:

http://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/query?status=new&status=assigned&status=reopened&component=Incubator&keywords=application

Are there any members of this committee that would be interested in acting
as a mentor to PostGIS or any of the other pending projects?

Best regards,

Probably I did something wrong, but there is yet another project
requesting for incubation

Thanks

Jachym,

Ah, sorry.  I have set the "application" keyword used by the query so
it won't be forgotten.

So we are also seeking mentor candidates for PyWPS.

Best regards,

Excellent.
I'm very excited to hear PostGIS is wanting to join the OSGeo fold, as
it is part of the majority of OSGeo based solutions.

I'm stretched for free time this year due to FOSS4G commitments. If no
one else steps up, I might be able to help out after that.

Hello,
some updates:

ORCHESTRA:
I have written a (paid for) evaluation of the project and that way
gained a bit of insight. As funding for the project has run out (EU
sponsored) there is no real community, ongoing effort or user base
around it. Additionally it is more of a meta level architectural project
(which would have been interesting to incubate) but we are currently not
set up to incubate or evaluate anything like this. I have recommended
them to apply at OSOR (osor.eu).

PostGIS:
Cool!

PyWPS:
I am interested in mentoring PyWPS.

Best regards,
Arnulf.

I would love to mentor PostGIS - but I am currently mentoring another project.

I actually (due to missing meeting) do not have the best idea of how
the current crop of projects are doing in the incubation process.

He,
I just did not want to take away all the glory. Surely someone will
volunteer for the honor of mentoring PostGIS? It will be a shining spot
in your vita. If no one applies within the next few days (and no one
nails me down on mentoring PyWPS) I will happily apply to mentor PostGIS.

Best regards,
Arnulf.

I would never speak about nailing, but apparently we do lack for
mentors. Since PostGIS is used by wild range of systems, it is well
established, it would surely be acceptable for us, as PyWPS team,
postpone our incubation process after PostGIS, if the situation would
demand it.

On the other hand, PyWPS is a small project. I have no idea about what
mentoring is demanding, but maybe it would be possible to mentor PyWPS
and other project in the same time?

Those of us who keep answering the question "Is PostGIS part of OSGeo"
need to know if we can start saying yes :-)  What's the next incubation
step we should watch for?

Best wishes,
Tyler

Thanks for the nudge... I had to dig up the process, here goes:

As per Incubation Process [1] ยง 3:

"For Projects that meet the Project Evaluation Criteria, an Incubation
Mentor is chosen. Incubation Mentors are selected based on willingness
to act as a Mentor for a particular Project. If no Mentor is chosen, the
Project is placed on hold until a Mentor can be found. It is acceptable
(and desireable) for a Project to recruit a Mentor for itself as part of
the Project Submission Process."

This has happened; Paul Ramsey as chair of PostGIS has asked on the list
and Arnulf Christl has volunteered to be mentor.

Now the Incubation committee should meet and vote to accept PostGIS into
Incubation. I guess this can be done via Mail, I will send out a motion
separately.

After voting the Incubation Committee proposes PostGIS for incubation to
the Board of Directors, who vote to accept PostGIS at the next board
meeting. This is it and off we go.

Best regards,
Arnulf
