Network analysis tools based on geotools?

HI, I am wondering if anyone knows of network analysis tools based on geotools or even some other open source GIS libraries? For example, for road network analysis we want to be able to calculate:

   1. Total distance travelled
   2. Number of trips which take >X mins
   3. Which trips could be taken with 'alternative transport'
   4. Calculation of vehicle kilmeters travelled per element of road network per person
   5. Calculation of pollution exposure per element of road network per person
   6. Number of users on each element for morning peak, afternoon peak and inter peak.

Thanx in advance
Gaby

Hi Gaby,

There has occasionally been discussion on this list of people using
road map data, sometimes with the GeoTools graph module. I don't
recall if this included the specific items that you're interested in
but you could try searching the archives...

Meanwhile, google finds these which look like they might be relevant...

Please let us know how you go - we're always interested to hear about
new applications using GeoTools.

Michael

As Mr Bedward mentioned the graph module can answer some of your
questions for the would personally consult a simulations book I have
on my shelf. You can model the cars yourself; or use queuing theory as
appropriate.

You are advised that the main trick with these things is the quality
of your data; so while open street maps will get you a nice road
network; it won't (always) provide what turn directions are available;
or what alternative transit routes are available (example HOV lanes
change direction in Seattle and you would need to take this into
account; in Sydney they have both public and private ferries to
consider).

Cheers,
Jody
