<they gave the figure in the latest magazine, but the NRLCA site has a link to the new EMA chart>

NEW EMA RATE
ADJUSTMENT OF EMA RATE TO 54 CENTS PER MILE
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has released the May 2009 CPI-W Private Transportation Index. Based on this release, the Equipment Maintenance Allowance (EMA) will increase by 2.5 cents to 54 cents per mile.

Therefore, in accordance with the provisions of Article 9, Section 2.J.3 of the USPS/NRLCA National Agreement, effective July 4, 2009 (Pay Period 15-09), the Equipment Maintenance Allowance (EMA) will increase from 51.5 cents per mile to 54 cents per mile, or a minimum of $21.60 per day, whichever is greater.

Auxiliary Rural Carriers, Rural Carrier Reliefs, Rural Carrier Associates, Rural Carrier Part-Time Flexibles, and Auxiliary Assistance

Employees providing auxiliary assistance or serving auxiliary routes under the provisions of Article 9, Section 2.J.5, will receive EMA of 54 cents per mile or $6.00 per hour, whichever is greater. The EMA will not exceed the amount provided in the special EMA chart for route stops and miles.

=======================================

Again, the figure agrees with computations RogerR & I made.  A quick look at my previous pay stub indicates I'll be getting a bit more than $1/day extra in EMA. I'm rich!!!!

Don't get me wrong I love the news and thank you for sharing it.  It is too bad it is still less than the current IRS rate of .55 per mile.  If I drive for anything other than as a rural carrier I receive the IRS rate why is our EMA ever less than that?

gj, last weekend my wife & I drove my route vehicle on a little trip. Afterward, I filled up and calculated my mileage at just over 30 miles/gallon. When I drive on my route, my mileage is 12-15 miles/gallon. My feeling is that that our EMA should take that reduction in mileage into account, and increase our EMA allowance in proportion to the drop in fuel economy.

MOU anyone??

I think we should be paid the equivalent of the cost to operate a LLV per mile.  That does not even consider the long miles, with cruddy roads on some of the routes, but I would be happy with the 86+ cents per mile instead of the 54 cents that I am happy to see.

Really, I am not hard on my POV but I replace brake pads every 6 months and rotors every year.  The oil changes are almost bimonthly instead or every 6 months. We all know the list is endless so I think it should take that into account too.  My route takes 4 to 5 hours to deliver which is equivalent to driving about 250 miles on a highway so the wear and tear is equivalent to that.
