I had a friend in Canada that I gave a Compass 77b last year that needed a bit of work. He is an electronics guy and thought he could heal it. He sent an email the other day wondering how the 77b operated when it was working properly. This prompted me to make the little demonstration video.
Anyhooo! I thought I would post a link too it and see if it is up to the Compass Forum standards LOL.
I hope you enjoy it and let me know if it stinks.

Hi John, hey that was great! I believe you have the honors of being the first on youtube to do a video on a Compass detector. You certainly showed how this machine will ignore iron but still pick up a non ferrous item right beneath it, man these were good old machines! It's hard to believe that's your first video on youtube. I've been thinking about doing one myself. How hard is it? Anyway great job and thanks for posting it here!

Hi John,

Excellent video and I believe Gary is right you may be the first ever to produce a youtube Compass video.

Plus,  I like how you demonstrated checking large pieces of iron with the non-ferrous-ferrous control,  If it gives a response in both modes it's iron.

Seriously,  Great job John!  Any chance of a Goldscanner or other series youtubes in the future :)

With your permission,  May I share your youtube on one of our California forums in the future?

WTG!

Thanks Gary, it's not hard to do a youtube video, it's alot of fun. Could you tell I was nervous as heck LOL.

Paul I'm glad you guys enjoyed the video. I don't mind you telling other people about the video. Share away LOL. I would like to do a few videos on other Compass detectors. Any ideas as far as content?
If I done a video on the GSP what should I show it doing? Ignoring iron ? detection depth ?

Thanks guys for the support.

Hi John,

Thanks for allowing me to share your video :)

That is great you plan on making other videos,  Here are a couple of ideas which you probably already thought of.

I can't remember if the Coin Scanner series have the same separation or iron unmasking abilities as the GoldScanner or XP Pro do so if possible maybe share these tips with using the Goldscanner and maybe a CoinScanner if you have one of those as well.

(1)  All-metal target ID,  In addition to having a disc mode the Scanner series have target ID in all-metal.  That's a feature not commonly found with Analog detectors and we really didn't start seeing this all-metal ID feature until the newer digital models came out but Compass had this feature long before,  When Compass came out with this it was a neat feature especially for those who search for gold nuggets.  Plus,  It adds depth and enhances the weaker signals such as coins on edge.  I once found an 1808 silver French coin on edge using the all-metal ID feature,  But I recommend using all-metal ID in cleaner open areas such as open fields not in tighter quarters with allot of trash/iron and only then you would rely using the disc mode instead.

(2)  Using as low discrimination level as possible,  Scan a square nail with a coin behind (as you died with the 77B video) showing how easily the Scanner detects the coin,  Then gradually increase discrimination eventually the detector would knock out the coin behind the nail which would clearly show why too much disc even if using between 4 to pre-set is using too much discrimination for relic detecting or detecting in areas laced with iron.

Thanks again John for taking the time to make the 77B video, If you have time it'll be great to view others in the future but only do them if they are not taking you away from family or personal obligations.

You guys may have noticed that the link to the video no longer works. The video has been deleted from youtube. I did not notice during editing that my brother who was filming me HAD NOISY GAS

Out of total humiliation I decided to replace the video with the Unwanted NOISE edited out... LOL
As soon as I get it reloaded I will update the link on my original post... I'm going to choke my brother.

Well John you asked us to tell you if the video stinks, maybe it did for you . I never heard that noise, I heard the dog barking in the backround. The only thing I thought that would have made it better was that you had the threshold turned up to high, I know you were trying to make sure it could be heard, but you seem to have good enough equipment that it would have been heard at a slight hum. Paul has some great ideas for future videos I think. Also you did not look nervous at all, that's why I was suprised it was your first time, you looked like an old pro at film making. One more suggestion, you could get a tripod to hold the camera they're very quiet during filming (LOL). You did a great job and should be proud of yourself, especially for the first time.

Gary your a stinker... Pun intended.
I think I'm going to go back and redo the whole video tommorrow. The threshold thing was bugging me too.
I didn't think the camera would pick it up so good so I was running it very loud.

Paul those are some great ideas I think I will try to do one on the GSP soon and maybe the X-100 if all goes well. I will be trying to get the whole content in my head before I try to put the video down. I will be thinking about what you suggested for sure.

By the way my brother laughed his head off. Can you hear me choking him LOL

Well I finally got a chance to redo the video. I tried to keep the threshold of the machine down but still up enough to be easily heard. I also tried to shorten the video. Let me know what you guys think.

Hi John, very good job, much better than the first attempt because of the threshold sound not as overwhelming. Now go back and look when you were scanning your wedding band and the threshold was a tad high and then you turned it down, I heard a much stronger, sweeter signal after you did turn it down. Overall a very good and informative video on the capabillities of the 77B, I was impressed once again! Here's a pic of mine in the green hardcase, have used it a couple times with the 8" coil , but I still haven't used it with the 12" coil which is still brand new in the original plastic.

Great job,
Gary

That is a beaut for sure Gary. I remember seeing that machine. It is so clean it would almost bother my conscious to take it out and get it dirty. LOL BUT I afterall it was made to play in the dirt I guess.
I have tried the 12 " coil it seems to get the bigger targets alot deeper but doesn't seem to hit the small ones real strong.
