Missing Order Icons in folders

This is plone 3.1.4

I just noticed that my order icons disappear in folder views as the
page loads. When the page starts to draw, the icons show up - but
then dissapear.

I am not able to reorder the items within a folder.

I don't think it's permissions as it happens even with admin and
manager level users.

and it's really hard to google the word "order" or "sort" and get the
relevant results ;)

I hope I'm just overlooking something simple.

They are replaced with a grip. You can use that to drag&drop reorder
items in a folder.

The grip doesn't work either.

The buttons get drawn for a second, then dissappear. When the "hand" appears, all i get is a circle with an x when I try and drop it in a different place.

Oops, sorry for the e-mail. was in gmail instead of google.groups ;)

Anyway. I have the grip, but all I get is the circle with an x through
it for can't place here.

Maybe it is permissions, but I'm not sure what permissions control
this.
