I think a Marketcetera live CD/DVD iso (with X) would actually be nicer
than the VMWare appliance.

Andrew,

That's an interesting idea. Are you thinking of a Live Ubuntu CD or
some other distribution?
We can probably do something along the lines of a Live Ubuntu CD
described here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization),
but it will probably be a bit until we have the time to make something
like that.

Can you give me a better idea of a use case you are trying to solve?
Are you in a situation where it's easier for to you reboot a box into
a live Ubuntu install instead of installing VMWare player and running
it that way?
This is just for evaluation purposes, right?

Just trying to see what the use cases are so we can work on
prioritizing the feature requests.
I've created an RFE to track this request at
http://trac.marketcetera.org/trac.fcgi/ticket/375, and i'd like to
hear comments and suggestions from others on what else this feature
would need.

thanks for the idea, Andrew!

The distro wouldn't matter much.. I use Fedora and OpenSUSE most often.  The newer anaconda installer on Fedora's live CD lets you install to a hard drive from the live CD.

That'd be a quick and easy way to move from test to production.  Having an x86-64 ISO would be nice.

Andrew,

This is a great suggestion.  We'll most likely create this using an
Ubuntu distribution - just because we are more familiar with it and
it'll be too complex supporting multiple Linux flavors at this stage.
It'll definitely be a great way to make demos.

I've created an RFE to track this. However, it may be a while until we
get to implementing this - I think the multi-broker support will
definitely be a higher priority first.

However, if you want to take a stab at creating a Live CD yourself
(and maybe sharing it with us, we'd be happy to host it afterwards)
let me know. This writeup
lists the steps we take to create the Ubuntu Appliance, and i'd be
happy to work with you to help you build it yourself if you have the
time.

Sounds good. I'll be happy to take a crack at it after I get more familiar with the oms. Not sure how Ubuntu lends itself to installation from the live cd vs. the Fedora/Anaconda disc...
