Making a beginners guide to learning the piano - suggestions for resources

Hi,

I've just come across Piano Booster and it looks great. I've absolutely no experience with playing the piano. I can't read sheet music either.

I'm hoping this thread might be able to form a starting point for an absolute beginners guide for people who want to teach themselves. Taking the assumption that the user has access to Piano Booster and a midi keaboard and that's it - what links can you suggest to get started? Some things that spring to mind:

Guide to learning to read sheet music
Chord chart, finger positioning
Midi file resources
What else is involved in learning the piano?

Sorry if this is completely naive, as I said I've absolutely no experience.

Thanks,

John

Hello John

The books listed on this page Demo Midi Files are a great place to start for a complete beginner. I would just try playing along to the midifiles from the Complete Piano Player and Chester's Easiest Piano Course as they are both suitable for the absolute beginner.

The open directory project has some interesting links see Top: Arts: Music: Instruments: Keyboard: Piano: Education

also there is some interesting tutorials on this link http://www.gmajormusictheory.org/

I am sure there are lots of other useful sites on the web.

Hi Louis,

Thanks for the quick reply and sorry it's taken so long for me to come back. As soon as I have time I'll be looking into those links you've mentioned. Hopefully this will help others too, if anyone else has suggestions please add.
