Ive read all the information from the mailcount page you have.  Alot of it is good information, but some of it I know for a fact that my office will not give credit for things...like ALL of the mentioned credits associated with COA from Joe.  Does Joes office really give credit for holding mail for the 10 day wait for COA?  or for making up a vacant and placing in the box?  I know that I do these things myself, ALOT because I have so many mlna, but Ive never gotten any credit for any of it?  How does one go about verifying some of the things that are claimed during mailcount?  I am not shy about filing grievances, but need something to hold up to them??

All I can tell you mailgurl, is that this is what the mail count guide says..

This is from the online mail count guide on page 23 under column 11

Credit is received in Column 11 for PS Form 8076,
Authorization to Hold Mail, that is received from the
patron (substitute forms may also be included). In order
to receive credit for special orders and hold orders, the
carrier must be required to transfer the information to PS
Form 1564-B, PS Form 3982 or any other type form used
for this purpose.

The way I interpret this section is that if management requires you to transfer the information to another form, then you should receive the credit..  In my office, we are required to write the address, the redelivery date or whether they will pick up, or the reason for holding the mail in magic marker and put it in our hold cases where the clerks can find them easily if the customer comes to the window to pick up their hold mail..  We receive a 2 min credit for this because of the extra time involved...

Basically, it is all in the interpretation of it..  If you can interpret it the same as your PM or sup, then you will get credit..  Sad, but true..  There is no uniformity in a mail count..  You fight for what you can get..  You can document it all you like, but if they dont interpret it the way you do, then you are in for a fight...

And yes, you can be sure if Joe wrote it on here, he is receiving the credit...
Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has..

You are right about the interpretation being key.  I do the exact thing you do with the hold cards, black marker with name and date of delivery to resume, or pick up and place it so it can be read at the end of the shelf below my case.  But my postmaster doesnt "require" that it be done that way.

So just one more thing that we do for free here in the Seattle District.

What a bunch of thieves we work for.  Whatever happened to an honest days pay for an honest days work?

Apparently the supervisors are told to NOT put numbers down  during count, just deny credits before they ever get on the 4239,  that way the carrier can protest, but there is nothing there to protest on.  Like trying to prove a negative.

Ask for the moon, you might get it, its always something how so many places give credits that they shouldnt and others you have to fight for the legal ones, counts stink, and are getting worse, had 30% fss BEFORE COUNT NOW have 75 TO 80%, some routes still only at 30, its a crap shoot hasnt been bad on some routes and is killing the others!
