Dear Fellow Second Lifers,

Thank you for all your kind help in the past.

I was wondering if you could recommend to me the easiest, least expensive software tools to do a Machinima and then the editing and hosting ?

I am concerned about A, B, C, and D  below:

A.  Creation (Fraps? $37)

B.  Editing

C.  Encoding

D.  Video Hosting (Youtube?)

I was going to do one for an educational site (my first effort) so price, and ease of use is a consideration.  I would appreciate any help.

Thank you, as always for all your help,

Marz Dayafter

I am probably the last person who should advise on machinima but...

A. I'm using the freebie CamStudio (for screencasts rather than machinima)
C. Encoding -- pass.
D. Hosting -- I also use Blip.tv though I dislike their habit for channels of recommending shows that I basically don't.

Some interesting/amazing/disturbing Windlight presets available from menu in Meerkat viewer.

One fun category you omitted is cameras -- there is a freebie called Alt-Zoom

... and a lot of other stuff on the wiki.

AngryBeth Shortbread also does a very reasonably priced studio-based system from her shop:

I've done mine with the lower budget ever (who said: "no budget, no limit: the real you?) :-)

A.  Creation: Fraps ($37)

B.  Editing: Windows Movie Maker (it comes with the package anyway)

C.  Encoding: no

D.  Video Hosting: blip tv, youtube (limits your video length), veoh.com (takes video longer than 15 minutes).

ah, let me make an amendment here. I"ve had to convert the wmv into avi or mov. For that, i used the free download AVS video converter (you can also get the full version for $59 unlimited access to AVS4You package (video converter, audio converter, video editor, audio editor. Still reasonable pricing)

They do a lot of video conversion tools (e.g. yesterday but they come up all the time) and they also point to open source or free equivalents. Tends to be PC-only though.

I feel very well  with Livestream + Procaster (I make just 'amateur' videos) for creation & streaming

What do you think about ?
