I would like to get one of the Compass Scanner series of detectors. I've done some looking but haven't been able to turn anything up. The Gold Scanner  or the Coin series would be fine. I would like to get the Two filter model that George Payne  designed for Compass (Pro?) if at all possible. If anybody here has one to sell or knows someone else that has one please let me know. If you want call (860) 488-5694.

Hi Joe, These machines are tough to find, really tough! I got mine at the Find's Forum,  I posted a wanted ad there and got lucky that someone responded. A Gold Scanner just sold at eBay for around $530 I believe. I'm not sure but I think the model George Payne designed used 8 AA batteries instead of the 3, 9 volts and I believe it was a Coin Scanner Pro but I'm not certain. Good luck hope you find one.

Hi Joe, that was fast, where'd you find it? That is the model George Payne designed with the 8 AA's. Some say the best Coin Scanner they made. What coil did you get with it? These are very similar to the Gold Scanner and R&C, same frequency 13.77 kHz. The main difference is the Gold Scanner has a true 10 turn manual ground balance and the Coin Scanner has a preset GB I'm pretty sure. You do have a backlit meter which the Gold Scanner doesn't. Also Jim, the Gold Scanner has different tones, after awhile you'll be able to tell the difference between good targets and iron, the meter will help you learn. If the meter on the Coin Scanner is as good as the one on the Gold Scanner you will love it. I think Dan who posts here has that same machine, the George Payne model.  Still can't believe you found one so fast. Let us know how you like it.

Gary,

Ya, wow! I can't believe I found one so fast either! Also it is the G.P. model that I wanted. (8" Coil) A fellow from North Carolina emailed me and said he had heard I was looking for the CS pro and that he had one he needed to get rid of.
I have a Bounty Hunter Big Bud pro / Teknetics (1984 +-?) that George also designed. The Depth and small target ability is amazing on it. I got a barber dime with it at a measured 11". This last winter I got the 10" super thin coil that George designed for it from Keith.
I'm looking forward to getting out with the CSer. If you or anyone has any tips I would sure like to hear about it.

Joe

Hey Joe, I've got that same exact coil with the gold decal, you will be able to use all the coils available for the 13.77 freq. machines 3', 6", 8" and 12". Went back and looked at some old posts and dazoff (Dan) uses this machine, I'm sure when he sees this he will make a post. BTW I'm pretty sure you could get the depth mod done to the Coin Scanner.

Gary,

Thanks for the info on the coil. I'll look forward to hearing from Dan, maybe he can give me some tips on using the detector. I'll give Keith a call after I get the detector and see what he can do as far as mods. I'll probably wait for winter to get the mods done.                           Joe

Congrats Joe with the Coin Scanner Pro,

She's a good detector,  I once had one maybe it was the Pro II and it had great separation.  The tones are crisp and solid leap years ahead of what these toys have today,  You're going to like this detector.

Keep the forum posted!

Paul(Ca),

Thanks for the encouragement! I've used a lot of different detectors in 41 years of detecting, but not the CS Pro.
I really like playing with the Vintage machines. This must be my lucky week or something. I went to a tag sale today and snagged a beautiful Fisher Gold Bug (Type I) for a super low price! Maybe I'll have a lucky MONTH ? ?         Joe

Hi guys, I also used the original Gold Bug about 10-12 years ago when I was nuggetshooting around Gold Basin,AZ, that's when I lived in Vegas. It's a solid machine, never had a problem with it and the conditions of extreme heat, sand and blowing dust are a testament to it's quality. Nice find there Joe!

Hi mikee and welcome, the xp pro and xp pro plus were not coin scanners, they were a different model and one of the high end models. The main difference I believe between the coin scanner pro and pro II was that the pro II had a manual ground balance and a 3 tone audio switch. Hope this helps.
