Looking for better help materials on groups and land perms

Greetings! I believe I've exhausted the knowledge base looking for more
comprehensive stuff on groups and land perms. I've subdivided an island. I
have groups with roles and different abilities. So my Officers/builders
group is allowed to rez. It doesn't work. I have to select Create Objects
All Residents in the About Land>Options.
The parcels are not deeded to the group for a couple of reasons. I'm not
sure though how that matters.
Does anyone have a tip where I can find more help? Thanks a heep :) Suzanne

Suzanne,

The parcels must be deeded to the group for group abilities to affect your land settings... otherwise SL wouldn't know which group to allow to build!

(1) You've divide up the land, and each subdivision is set to
Officers/builders?

(2)  When trying to rez as an officer/builder in one of these
subdivisions, you have checked that the officers/builders group is
set to "active" in your groups window?

Don't think it does.  I haven't done it.

Chapter 9 of The Second Life Grid book looks relevant. Anyone have this book and care to comment? Does it do detail?

OK, thanks and since I wrote this post I fixed the problem. Sort of. That  is I set (not deeded) the parcel to the Builders Group. So now Everyone in that group can build. But if understand what you’re saying, to get the functionality in the Group Roles/Abilities that I want, (i.e. That only Officers can build on said parcel) I’d have to deed the parcel to the Builders Group?

If so what’s the function of Setting a parcel to a group, I’m wondering?

RE: Looking for better help materials on groups and land    perms

On our land (Kowhai – the SLENZ project  http://slenz.wordpress.com/) we have set then deeded the land parcel to the SLENZ group then used the ability to define roles within the group to distinguish who can build or not (see Group information/Members and Roles/Roles). So for example SLENZers can enter the land and  set it to Home, Educators can invite to group and eject or ban, developers can create objects etc.  This allows multiple levels of functionality for members while having the parcel belonging to just one group.
