Lame 3.98 beta6, again about configure

The configure script doesn't obey me. Even when i run
./configure --disable-nasm
it searches for nasm and creates Makefiles which use it. I'm sure about this because my test went as
follows:

./configure --disable-nasm
renamed nasm executable
make
build aborted with errors from make (nasm not found).

Well, have i to remove/rename nasm (before launching configure) each time i want do disable assembly
optimizations? I thought the --disable-nasm options was there on that purpose. Isn't it?
