Label rendering inconsistency

I've run into an issue when trying to render an annotation layer.  When
I add a layer with only a TextSymbolizer, uDig will not render the
layer.  Adding the same feature source as a new layer, and rendering the
underlying line or polygon will result in both the label and the
geometry being rendered.

This is pulling data from a PostGIS 1.3/PostgreSQL 8.3 database, using
uDig release 1.2M6 (windows installer).

Thanks Mark;

Andrea talked to me a bit about this last night; the functinoality is
provided by the GeoTools rendering system - so it must be something we
are doing special on the uDig side to break this for you.
