LLV Mirrors.

Has anyone gotten to try the new way they are setting up the right hand mirror on the LLV.   I just got mine back from VMF and the mirrors had been changed.  They CLAIM that this is supposed to make less accidents and reduce blind spots.   Duh.  too bad they didn't ask those that DRIVE them.   To me, this makes them more accident prone.  One constantly hits the mirrors trying to get to the box, has to stay further out in the street when going to boxes, and also creates more of a blind spot then ever before.    Now, you have the whole door to get in your way when you try to glace into them.  Of course, they WON'T change them back.   Wish they would just get rid of the excess management morons instead of having them try to figure out how to make our jobs safer, when all they do is make them worse.

yeah had llv on my route done that way too. I had reported it after I first saw it as someone must have hit it because it was upside down. I later found out it was done for safety reasons because someone got killed because of blind spots. It is harder to service cbu that I'm not supposed to dismount at. It's going to be very interesting to see how that will work in the winter with the ice because I have to go in at an angle just to reach some of them.

It's happening here, too. Mine went in at the beginning of September and came back with the right mirrors all screwed up. I messed with it all day trying to figure out what was wrong with it...never could get it adjusted right. When we checked vehicles the next morning, I figured it out...duh. With the new set-up, the mirrors are in the way of the door and the boxes, PLUS you now have to turn your head to the right to actually see out of them instead of just glancing through the small side window. Safety first....nice of them to let us know about the latest vehicle modification!

After reading the posts here on this topic, I asked our vehicle maintainenve guy if I could opt/out of having my mirrors changed. Im 24 years accident fre and have grown used to where the mirrors are. He told me I could not opt/out because if I got in an accident they would ask why weren"t my mirrors changed.  So OHfemail you might want to reconsider your personal adjustment to the mirrors.

I didn't change them, just know they're back to where they were. In our district, they're changing them as they go in every 6 months for scheduled maintenance, so it's just a matter of time...sigh...

Actually,   you DO get used to them.   But...the BEST way to use them is with the door open.   That way, the door doesn't interfere with the mirror.    You will have to play around with them until you find a position that kind of works for you.   So far, I'm the only one in the office with them.   I do check out other town's as I drive home and have yet to see someone else that gets to be the test pilot of this.    I just wish they would get rid of the management instead of giving them positions to think up crap like this.   OK  supposedly one person died, but, was it really the result of the mirrors?   I mean,  face it,   there are thousands of LLVs out there being driven daily.    Because one person died we all have to suffer the consequences?    Sure there are blind spots, but the way the mirrors are being repositioned are cause worse blind spots.  Far as I'm concerned, this change is just an accident waiting to happen.   OK,   sort of like when you report a problem and management doesn't get around to fixing it until they are good and ready.  Just normal postal stupidity.   Bet they never asked a carrier THEIR opinion of this before it was implemented.

You might want to consider filing a 1767 (safety issue form) if you feel that having the mirrors changed this way is unsafe compared to the way they were before.  Mine have been changed and I can't see out of the whole mirror because I have the seat up so far to reach the brake/gas pedals (I'm short).
