LAME problems on my business PC, HELP Please

Yours is the only name and address I could figure out.  Somehow LAME has taken over my computer.  Now I have no sound at all, and a small window with LAME mp3dev.org pops up whenever sound should be played.  How can I get rid of this before I just restore the computer and lose everything including my mind ?    I'm not a geek and need my sound for my business.   Whatever happened occurred just last evening as I was viewing an avi a business associate created. Many thanks if you can help me.  I need sound for my business.

Tom

I'm only guessing here, but it seems you installed either the LAME direct
show
filter or the LAME ACM.

Go to "Device Manager -> Audio -> Audiocodecs" porperty page. There you
find all installed ACM audiocodecs on your computer. If "LAME ACM MP3
Codec"
is listed, then you can disable it or change the priority to very low
(a high number IIRC).
