K3 changing split?

On a small number of occasions recently I've been working (what I believed
to be) split on CW, and been embarassed to find that I've transmitted on the
DX frequency. At first I put this down to senior moments, but now that I
have had the same thing happen on RTTY, I am increasingly (if not totally)
convinced that the K3 has reverted from split to unsplit of its own accord.
Could this be a result of RF in the shack? I would appreciate advice on
where to start troubleshooting. I am running the latest firmware on an
unmodded K3/100 #328 with the KA3T installed. The antennas are dipoles with
a common coax feed.

Have you programmed a MACRO using SWH13? If so, this will toggle you in and out of SPLIT when you go in and out of the MACRO, which may not be what you intended. I got caught on this recently and switched to FT0 to positively turn SPLIT off without using a toggle command (thanks Dick K6KR).

My most recent version of SPLIT+2 and cleanup:

SPLIT+2 SB0;SWT13;SWT13;FT1;LK1;UPB5;RT0;XT0;SB1;BW0035;BW$0080;MN111;MP001;MN255
(Original Split+2 but with different BWs, MIX A Ab and LOCK VFOa)

DIVON SB0;FT0;LK0;SB1;MN111;MP000;MN255;DV1;
(Cleanup to return to normal DIVRSTY by resetting MIX to A b and removing VFOa LOCK).

I previously had SWH13 in place of FT0 in DIVON and SPLIT would toggle each alternate time I cycled through the MACROs.

Chris,

Do you think you may have switched to another band and then back again
before the split did the "unsplit" thing? The default behavior of the
K3 is to undo the split if you switch to another band even if you go
back to the original band. To preserve the state of the split per band,
set Config->SPLT SV-> YES.

Hi Chris:

I always like to first blame these problems on my computer. What PC program
are you using with CW and RTTY? Did you arrive at the particular DX
frequency by hitting a spot? Depending on your program and how the spot is
listed, split information may or may not be present. Then if you
accidentally bump VFO A and refresh the spot to get back on frequency you
may inadvertently deactivate the SPLIT function. (Been there, done that with
WriteLog).

I've never seen my rig do this. But if the display would just change from RX to TX freq. on key up while operating split mode, none of this would be an issue. At least you would know for sure you were clobering that guys signal.

If you simply look at the display none of this is an issue.
Look at the TX arrow ... it's just as easy as expecting the
VFO A (not "operating frequency") display to show something
other that what it is designed to show.

Enough of this "I want my K3 to operate like my previous
inferior radio."

changing its split status. I believe (but am not yet sure) that the problem
may well have arisen from the use of a macro using the SWH13 command. Thanks
