K3 SSB-CW feature fails

  For whatever reason, I can't get the SSB-CW feature to work with my K3. Sidetone works in rec, but as soon as I go to TX, no sidetone (or CW signal audio). I am using original Elecraft K3 software as supplied 9/8/2009 Ser #3460

How are you "going to TX?"  CW in SSB works only if
you have enabled VOX (QSK or semi break-in) and do
not use a footswitch.  If you first place the K3 in
transmit in USB/LSB mode, the key/paddle input will
be ignored.

Go to CONFIG: CW WGHT and tap the 1 button (aka A/B). VFO B will toggle
between SSB  -CW and SSB  +CW. You want +CW. Note that you must use the
internal keyer via the PADDLE jack, not external keying via the KEY jack.

Works here with an external keyer and on VFO A. Does not work if SPLIT  
but that's not a likely scenario.

Is that true, Rick?  I use an external keyer plugged into the KEY
jack.  With firmware 3.52, my K3 appears to send CW in SSB mode using
the key input, judging by the output power following my keying anyway.
