Irish Translation

I have been working with an Irish language group who have been using
Plone since 2.0.4 to promote their activities.
They would like to assist now with an Irish translation.

I have downloaded the trunk from

    https://svn.plone.org/svn/collective/PloneTranslations/trunk

and sent them the .pot files from the i18n folder.

Some preliminary questions:

1.    Is there recent documentation which I should be reading on the
best way to activate these files locally for testing and then to submit
these files back for inclusion in later releases?

2.    Are there any other groups you are aware of that are already
carrying out preliminary work?  I note that Gaeilge is not included in
your current list of translations.

3.   Have you any suggestions on ways to isolate the 'public' strings so
that I can prioritise the strings which would normally be seen by
visitors to the site (Home, News, Events)?

4.   Have I missed anything obvious?

5.   Where should I report what I think is a bug in NuPlone /
LinguaPlone interaction?  It requires flags to exist, even when they are
not set for display, and no Irish flag is defined in languages.  I
patched it by adding the country flag (unused), but I guess it's the
skin that needs fixed because several languages appear to be
(deliberately?) missing flags.

This is a very good question and one that I've thought of in the past.
In the past, I've just used the old 'click-and-see' method of figuring
out which tags are visible in the public interface (even the main
editing interface) but it would be a very good thing to work out a
programatic way to figure this out.

OK.  I now have a draft translation of the plone.pot file.  I have inserted this into the /PloneTranslations/i18n/ folder as plone-ga.po.

I've also created a folder /PloneTranslations/locales/ga/ and inserted irish translations of the calendar elements.  (The homepage I stole from German for now.)  The .mo file has been created on restart and the items appear successfully in the calendar.

However, none of my plone.po translations is appearing.  Do I need to create all the various .po files, even though they have not been translated?  Or do I need to register the translation somewhere for it to be picked up?  

I'm working with Plone 3.1.7 installed with the Unified Installer, in case it's relevant.

All help gratefully received.

If you created plone-ga.po in the i18n directory, it should appear in
PlacelessTranslationService.
Please verify your file is well-formed with :
msgfmt -cv plone-ga.po
(You have to install the gettext package to have this command on Ubuntu)

You don't have to create atcontenttypes-ga.po and others right now,
you can do it later when you are ready to translate.

To test your translation you can use plonnext 3.3 like I described in
the thread "Test your translation in context!" the 22 May is this
mailing-list.
