Hello @ all.

after being signed up on this list for a spell and finally made it to
New Zealand last Friday I think it's time to introduce myself.

I am a 27 year old software engineer from Germany who is in NZ now with
a Work and Holiday visa. I have 5 years experience with Zope 2 and
Python and while I was travelling Australia during the last 12 months I
worked for Nunatak Systems Pty. Ltd. in Hobart for 6 months as a
Python/Plone programmer. I also have good experience with Linux, Oracle
Database and MySQL DB.

I am currently stuck in Christchurch for the next 3-4 weeks to get one
of my tooth fixed, therefore I would like to know if there is a regular
Python/Zope meeting I could attend. It would also be great to know where
are any regular meetings in NZ anyway? My interests are specially in
Django, Zope 3 and grok.

After (maybe while) travelling across NZ I am thinking to seek work as a
programmer for approx. 6 to 7 months on a temporary basis or as a
contractor. If you want further information, CV or references please
contact me at stefan at tjarks dot de.

Hi Stefan,

There will be a meeting of the NZPUG this (and hopefully every following) month in Auckland.
Sign up at http://www.nzpug.org to stay informed - maybe you can make it in February

Cheers,
Danny

Hi Stefan,

Great to hear from you! We don't currently have regular NZZUG meetups but have a scattering of Python/Plone throughout New Zealand. I have been trying to organise a meetup with Paul Roe (from TheVirtual Ltd who host this ML/site) and one potential idea is to arrange a larger meetup with yourself and some others here locally in Christchurch. Any takers? (hint hint: Marek).

Ok,

Now for logistics:

Would the regular hangout of The Twisted Hop[1] be ok? or The China Kitchen[2]? or ?

What day would suit everyone best?
Preferred days for me, if after work hours, would be Thursday (but I could swing a Friday).

Considering you have mentioned my name, I thought I MUST stop lurking
and join the conversation.

I am very keen to meet up and also help to organize and promote NZZUG
meet up here in CHCH.

------

Brief introduction of myself: started hacking 17 years ago (assembler,
Z80, CP/M), discovered PHP 10 years ago and I make money by hacking
PHP + PostgreSQL (MySQL) since then. Last year I re-discovered Python
and started hacking stuff in Django. And I am loving it!!!

Cheers,
Marek

I'm going to be out of town 17-20 Jan, but other than that I'm free.

+1 for SOH. Very convenient location indeed! ;-)

I reckon the Twisted Hop is very good place to meet. They offer free
Internet connection so we could do presentations of cool projects we
work on etc.

Friday is always good for me. But I am easy and can turn up almost any day/time.

Ok, how about this then as a suggestion:

The Twisted Hop
5pm Friday 25th January
Bring your laptops if you wanna do some presos/etc

Marek: did you also wanna mention this to Phil Pearson?

If people could let me know if this sounds good/bad that would be great.

P.S. Just a question - is the Hop quiet enough that we can do presos/etc?

Sounds good to me.

I agree with Richard. 5pm is a bit late for quiet chat. However, they
have opened the new part of the Hop (first floor) which is usually a
bit more quiet than downstairs.

Tim: I think Phil is not in NZ at that time. However, I will mention it to him.
