Introducing IANN team

Dear all,

let me introduce myself and my colleagues following a preliminary exchange
with Thomas Bonte.

My name is Rinaldo Nani and I am writing from Milano, Italy. My team is
working on a project about a new music performance learning system; it will
be a desktop application capable of providing performers with a real-time
feedback on the performance quality.

One of the key issues is obviously the availability of music scores, which
should be created, edited and published with the help of an external tool
(notation application).
In this respect, we find that MuseScore is indeed a valid alternative to
Sibelius, Finale etc.

Our new application will clearly import music scores in one or more
predefined formats; we are thinking about an extension of MusicXML, which is
a good choice for many aspects. In fact, we are already laying out this
MusicXML format extension in which both the logical and graphical
representations (e.g. raster images) are included AND linked together in a
functional way.

So, our idea would be the development of an export filter for MuseScore,
which would extend MuseScore current export capabilities. This would be our
contribution to the Muse Score project in terms of coding and maintenance.

In our understanding there would be no need to touch core Muse Score
modules. Our code would be in clearly identifiable, self-contained files.

Raffaele (nick: rafa) will be our team member here, but I will follow the
exchanges. Needless to say, we will be happy to discuss openly all what is
needed

Best regards
-Rinaldo Nani

Great ! Sounds interesting !
I wonder what do you mean by "linked". Some people here like cambiata
and myself were talking about a format to know when a given note
(knowing the coordinates) is played. Is it the kind of information
your format will store? or you don't care about timing and your own
app will deal with it? Is this format documented? Maybe there is
already a norm for this kind of information?

You plan to build your own musescore version and sell it with your software?

Last question, it's already a lot of questions. What do you expect
from the community?

Hi Lasconic, all

happy to see that our things brought up quite a few interesting questions
:-)
At a couple of yours I can answer straight away:

1) no, we are not thinking of branching our own MuseScore version and
distribute it with our stuff.
The best for us would be to encourage the use of the "official" version of
MuseScore software to create featured scores. As you understand, this is
feasible if the official build will include the extended export
functionality that we are lookimg for.

2) I guess Raffaele will ask the community for some help to fine tune ide
configuration. Furthermore, any hints about dealing with specific issues
linked with our tasks will be very much appreciated.

I'll stay tuned
-Rinaldo

Have you looked at the Open Score Format? I provides package format for
multimedia on top of MusicXML. The format is new and still in beta but
it has backing from big names such as Hal Leonard, MakeMusic, Music
Sales Group, Yamaha, and Recordare (makers of MusicXML).
