Initial RC1 Build?

Hi all,
Well, I got the build done, but did not get to do ANY testing on it; ran out
of time if I want to be functional at work tomorrow.  Have uploaded here:

http://download.osgeo.org/mapguide/testing/

as: MapGuideOpenSource-2.1.0.4283-RC1.exe

And the md5sum output is:

c85fad1a8410988b37099ac307ca8b0f *MapGuideOpenSource-2.1.0.4283-RC1.exe

Please try installing (on a non-production machine) if you have a few
minutes, and once we get some hopefully positive notes we can move it into
the release folder for 2.1.0.

I was hoping to roll FDO 3.4.1 RC1 into this release, but fate was unkind :)
I did swap the SQLite provider for Traian's back-ported 3.4 version; if
anyone has concerns with this I can put the original version back in, but it
has some nasty bugs.

Jason

Hi Jason,

I looks like you are using rev 1907 of Fusion for this?  We would like
to release a Fusion 2.0 beta release soon and perhaps it makes sense to
coordinate RCs/betas of Fusion with your releases of MGOS?

I think some of us would like to see the new MapGuide out whether Fusion is ready or not.  Sooner the better.

Martin, what Mike is proposing is to prep a Fusion 2.0 beta 1 release
from the same revision that Jason used to prepare the latest MGOS
release so that issues reported against the MGOS release have a known
Fusion release to be tested/fixed against - not introducing delays in
the MGOS releases.

Cheers

Paul

Hi Mike,
I reverted my local "externals" setting for Fusion and updated before
running the build.  My local copy shows a revision of 1930 (which I'm pretty
sure is the overall repository revision) and a last commit revision of 1910.

To address what Martin was saying, my understanding is that we will not be
delaying the MGOS release further due to anything other than showstopper
bugs in MGOS core. We want to get the 2.2 betas rolling out quickly, and it
doesn't make a lot of sense to have two non-release versions operating at
the same time.

If the rest of the PSC is OK with this, I will definitely be doing a 2.1.1
release very quickly, rolling in FDO 3.4.1 as well as the final version of
Fusion 2.0 if any bugs are encountered and fixed subsequent to the MGOS
release.

Hi all
After a some rebuilds of mapguide server from trunk I suddenly remarked that
mapguide java api was broken:
When doing a MapGuideJavaApi.MgInitializeWebTier(configPath) following
error/exception is spitted:

java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError:
C:\Programme\OSGeo\MapGuide21\Web\Tomcat\bin\MapGuideJavaApi.dll: Can't find
dependent libraries

Seems that I'm welcome to the dll-hell...
Anyone an idea?

Just to clarify, these dlls will have to be manually copied to the Tomcat\bin directory.

Thanks for the answers - but i always copied these newly built dll's from
release/bin to tomcat/bin also the mapguideapi.jar was moved accordingly.

So I'm really stuck - wonder if it could be an msvcXX.dll matter or a
jre-update problem (currently v 1.6_16 is on my dev_machine)...

I had problems with Java versions and 2.1 installer builds not working on
other peoples' machines; ended up having to go back to 1.5 I think, but a
bit fuzzy.  There's a ticket for it somewhere in Trac.

Problem was the PATH-variable added by beta setup:
C:\Programme\OSGeo\MapGuide21\Web\Php
A few days ago I moved the webtier dll's to PHP/ext...

But for me it is not clear why the jre is not able to find dependent dll's
of MapGuideJavaApi.dll even if the JVM-option
"-Djava.library.path=C:\Programme\OSGeo\MapGuide21\Web\Tomcat\bin" was set
for tomcat...

So maybe, also the tomcat/bin should be added to PATH too (if the Java/JSP
Api is installed)

Hi Jason,

As Paul said, we don't intend to delay a release of MGOS at all, we just
want to have a version number to report issues against.

I've uploaded a fusion-2.0.0-beta1 to the download server at
http://download.osgeo.org/fusion/fusion-2.0.0-beta1.zip.  (Just replaced
the links on the wiki, the first 2.0.0 beta is still on the server.)
This was created from the 2.0 branch at rev 1910, which should be close
to what you have in the MGOS2.1 release.

.NET
Custom instalation folder

Hi all,
Well, I got the build done, but did not get to do ANY testing on it; ran out
of time if I want to be functional at work tomorrow.  Have uploaded here:

http://download.osgeo.org/mapguide/testing/

as: MapGuideOpenSource-2.1.0.4283-RC1.exe

And the md5sum output is:

c85fad1a8410988b37099ac307ca8b0f *MapGuideOpenSource-2.1.0.4283-RC1.exe

Please try installing (on a non-production machine) if you have a few
minutes, and once we get some hopefully positive notes we can move it into
the release folder for 2.1.0.

I was hoping to roll FDO 3.4.1 RC1 into this release, but fate was unkind :)
I did swap the SQLite provider for Traian's back-ported 3.4 version; if
anyone has concerns with this I can put the original version back in, but it
has some nasty bugs.

Jason

Hi - just to bring this up before the PSC meeting.

I have been using this version (2.1.0.4283-RC1.exe) in our classic .net / IIS environment for a while now and looks good.
At the last meet there was to be a release before the end of October - **please** follow the guidelines and launch 2.1 so that the effort can move on, it's quite painful from this end you know...

The only thing is the installer does the rather harsh forced reboot at the end without warning that on server environments is not ideal.

If you stop your server and web processes prior to the install do you still get the reboot?

I've been thinking about this required reboot, and was wondering...

How did installers pre-2.1 (2.0.x, 1.2, etc) get away without rebooting? Didn't they set a system environment variable as well (for Proj.4)?

I'm pretty sure that the Autodesk provided installers just display a
"you need to reboot, reboot now?" message.
In fact, I think it gets displayed twice after installation of the
server component.

Jackie,

As is implied in Kenneth's reply, it is not the reboot that is the problem - I can schedule that and cope with the need.  Why reboot?... IISRESET picks up most changes - is it the service needing the PATH change for CS-Map?  I would have thought this was picked up on the service restart...

Anyway I digress... the issue with the RC1 installer is that there is no warning or option, at the end of the install process the reboot kicks in.  You can sneakily leave an edited TXT file open in notepad to force a user interface catch but ideally the installer should ask/warn.

Thanks - Crispin
