Probably, the main problem facing the conservative movement is the absurd immigration policy followed by this country since 1965. A conservative wants to preserve the traditional values that have made this country the best country in the world. But for the majority of the immigrants, those values don't mean much. This is true particularly for Third World, low educated immigrants, who are taught by the left-wing liberals that American values and traditions are no better than their own traditions. If you go back to the presidential election of the year 2000, you will find that President Bush lost 5 out of 6 states with more Hispanic population. He only won Florida! If conservatives don't change left-wing liberal immigration policies, which openly discriminate against people of European descent, the conservative movement will have no future.

I don't mind Immigration.....it's the invasion I hate.  The invasion (I'll call it like is and not fear the P.C. crowd) is far worse than what the politicals/media will have you believe.  And the damn thing I don't understand, when you have a great majority of Americans (Republicans, Democrats, independents, you name it) are against Amnesty (waving the white flag to the invaders) and we voice that opinion with phone calls and faxes to the point of crashing congress' phone banks, and they still vote FOR AMNESTY????????  Taxation without representation.  What are we to do next?  Anybody ready for another Boston Tea Party?

VOLTART;

Interesting commentary, mind if I add something to think about?

I was raised in the 1960's by "Traditional Valued" second- & third-generation American Citizens who instilled lots of discipline, respect, etc; many of the Republican Conservative values.

I took these values to mostly white elementary through high schools, where I was considered "different", because I didn't do illegal drugs, get tattoos and earrings/body-piercings. My "Conservative" Family had us out on weekend excursions nearly every weekend, year-round, fishing, hiking, camping, off-road motor-cycling, water skiing; lots of outdoors recreational activities.

Each Monday at school was a 'Culture-Shock" for me, when my pals would tell me about drag-racing, cruising, gang-fights, drug-busts and parties, etc. I guess that I missed-out on "the good-old-days", of Rebellionism!!

You mentioned 1965 as the 'turning moment', on the immigration issues, but as I grew up with mostly adults (and all...of...their...stories...), I found and still find an obvious difference in the young people of the 40's & 50's, and the young people of the 60's, 70's, 80's, etc. What do you think these teens-plus were rebelling against? Authority? Restrictions? "Placement"? Disrespect? Conservative Values?

Personally, I include Generational shifts in attitudes when I address Social and Cultural Issues that may affect my U.S. of A. income, freedoms, values, etc. Just thought you might like to hear an expanded view on the immigration issues.

It will be interesting to see if the democrats will be successful in legislating a new morality (gay marriage, abortions-on-demand, pay-to-play politics, bail-outs for everybody in good standing with the democrats and more subprime loans to illegal aliens).  It seems like young people today are taught in public schools by extremely liberal-minded teachers and cannot distinguish right from wrong.  By the same token, our courts, that are becoming more liberal also, have difficulty in judging right from wrong  -- now it merely has to fit the political agenda (we jail our border guards and let the drug-running illegal alien go free).  Perhaps our poltical leaders, our educators, and our judges will all be too busy dealing with the economic failures in our country caused by our uber-liberal pandering politicians and will not have the time or money to manage anything except the "basics".

Ever take out a loan? Get a credit card? Buy a house on Mortgage? Buy a car/truck on a small down payment?

I had to buy my first car, second car, etc; "cash on the barrel", not because I had lousy credit, but because I had no one to buy my first car, apartment, house, etc; for me!! Most of my friends got their first cars from their parents or older siblings, squelched on the financial terms (paying back their Creditors), never got punished/reprimanded, and the "credit crisis" was on!! "Give'm an inch, they'll take a mile!!"

My generation really didn't learn the Conservative Values of money, and keep-on borrowing-on, "promising" to pay back their Creditors, knowing they really don't have to pay them back. We are currently in a "Sugar-Daddy/Sugar-Mommy" cultural society, whether the Defaulters are Republicans, Democrats, Independents, or Others. Buy over your head/means?  No problem, "Sugar-Daddy"-a will bail me out. Get three months behind on your house payments? No problem, "Sugar-Momma" - b will extend your habit!!

What is unfortunate, is that my generation is now in charge of the banks, security exchanges, stock markets, insurance industry, and all the economics of city governments!! CNN says it right, "Money is the Number One Issue"!! My generation has never had to correct mistakes, had to pay back "all their loans", had to start from the ground up!! They do not have a clue that something is wrong with the national economy, because they have all of their "outs" for their personal finances!! They think it is a "game" to "have to sacrifice"!!

They have a single individual who was quoted today as saying that he "will be responsible" for the nation's economic, defense, and homeland securities, giving my generation another "out"/CYA to not have to pay their bills on time!! (It's not their fault!!)

I'm not knocking what is important to you Seebee, just pointing out that the economic crisis has recently became the most important moral issue of our time!! Moral issues stem from cultural and social attitudes, and the attitudes towards money is rapidly catching up to and getting ready to take a big bite out of those who pretend to have money, no matter how much the Government waters down the value of the dollar by printing more just to bail out those who are not paying attention, let alone their bills!! They sure don't miss their TGIF's and Cigar Parties!!

I think our political leaders, educators, and judges will become our next Food bank and Soup Kitchen employees and full-time Volunteers!!

Looks like we need a new technology that will start a construction boom... pretty soon!!

"Go-Green, with Hurricane-Proof Building Frames!!"

How about if we the people have more say by voting if our senators and congressmen are really earning their pay instead of having them in control of their own pay scale and raises.  How about if due to hard times and insufficient funds they all take a  25% reduction in their pay.  Or make the reduction in their pay equal to the amount of taxes they want to increase? hmm.

How about when they talk about doing away with pensions, they start with their own system which is far better than any the average citizen has as an example?

For state employees or teachers in Illinois who had no choice except to contribute a portion of their salary to a state managed pension fund, you can read what happened to those funds when managed by Obama's good friend and felon, Tony Rezko.  The politicians have robbed these funds for years and certainly have found other uses for the mandated portion that was to be matched by state government.

Why are they, who continue to be re-elected, not accountable? or in jail?  for grand theft?
